I never ever had a friend like him . It’s be more than a friend , to me like my uncle, and to my kids as well... I just find out this page , and first think what I do if I get chance to come in Camberra is to spend a day next to his grave with my family... He love my kids and always teach youngest one how do planting trees, roses, watering plants , and another gardening things.... Lost him we lost member of my family, that how we respect him .... Last two days of his life he spend with me and my son at property on 21 Amy st West Croydon , cleaning and planting some seeds....Last night of his life he spend with me and my family at my home . He always bring bottle of nice wine and share with as . He just confirmed flight from my PC , and next day we drove him to airport . He handed over all key from property at Amy St , and say , now is yours , and before he advertised property for rent and for contact details he put my name ... I remember , he told me , and my wife , he only trusted as , nobody else ...
We hugged each other on airport shake hands and he said to me and my son GOODBYE..... I said it’s not goodbye we see each other soon in Canberra but it’s to late ......
My friend, my uncle , passed away on that flight....
I never ever forget this GOODBYE , that hugs and handshakes. We never ever forget you BOGEY YOU ALWAYS BE THERE SOMEWHERE AROUND.

The last time I saw you was in Manuka Coles and as usual I was in a rush, whilst you were not. I wish I'd made a little more time. I miss your gentle cultured voice, your compassion, your kindness, your generosity and desire to help others. You taught me so much about Canberra and about humility. So many enjoyable Sundays talking of all manner of things from plants, gardening, politics and people over a glass of wine and varied cheeses. You will not be forgotten.

Vale Bogey. A returned Christmas card, an internet search, and surprising news of your passing so many months ago. It was fun and inspiring to share a house with you for a couple of university years, to be friends. You were always quietly fighting the good fight and it reassured me to know you were in Canberra continuing that. You were just always going to be there when I next turned up for some exhibition or other. I can see you smile as I say that. Goodbye dear Bogey. Life well lived.

I'd like people to know that left messages of condolences here for Bogey, that a Musidlak Street (or Avenue etc) has been approved for the suburb of Denman-Prospect in the ACT. It is to honour Bogey's achievements in electoral reform, particularly with enshrining one of the worlds fairest electoral systems, Hare-Clark in legislation in the ACT so it can't be removed. I would like to thank Malcolm Mackerras for all his hard work in single-handedly making this happen. What an honour for Bogey.

To my good friend Bogey , it was so sad to hear that you had left us early . From the days at Woodville High , when you intrigued us with your amazing intellect ,to all the times you would return to Adelaide from Canberra , there are many fond memories. We played bridge and mahjong and tried to beat the mathematical odds with the lottery tickets. We explored the wineries of the Maclaren Vale and you brought along your own selection of gourmet meats and cheeses from the market . You were always generous with planting's from your gardens . We still have flowering bulbs that will be a regular reminder of your passion for plants ,and the beauty of nature . Vale Bogey. You will always be remembered

Vale my good friend...who can forget your visits to selected friends at the Dept of Health with your jam jars of flowers and your regular wine tastings with matching cheeses! I toast your passing with a glass of red you supplied me with from your favourite winery - Crabtree! The world is all the poorer for your passing

It was a shock and sadness to hear of Bogey's sudden passing. Bogey was good friend for many years and a former work colleague when we both worked with Senator David Vigor. I will miss our conversations on many topics including shared interests in gardening and the colourful, interesting hand-written cards updating many and varied on-going activities. Vale Bogey .

I too was shocked at the news of Bogey's sudden death. As Susan Freebairn has noted, his influence was widespread including, in my experience, the Department of Finance, where his mathematical mind brought real influence in the area of the Commonwealth's banking arrangements. Apart from his intellectual contribution, each Monday without fail, he would brighten the office with a selection of flowers from his garden and would freely share his extensive knowledge of plants. And, of course, of a Friday evening he often shared his knowledge and love of wine with a selection from his cellar. He will be truly missed.

Bogey will be sadly missed. I enjoyed discussing news and current affairs with him, sharing stories about family and friends, debating policy issues and politics, and exchanging ideas for gardens and renovations. Bogey was unique and inspirational in so many ways. He was an effective change agent and influencer - a man with a great sense of humour and intellect! I admired his commitment to the principles of making the world a better place - something he certainly achieved.

Bogey has been a dearly loved member of my extended family since he worked as Chief of Staff for my late husband, Senator David Vigor. Together, they worked to improve systems and safety, to right wrongs and to represent diverse views within the Parliament of Australia. As a great thinker and enthusiastic researcher, Bogey discovered many systemic and policy issues, practices and laws that warranted change and he worked tirelessly to make changes happen - either directly through preparing draft bills and briefing papers or through broader persuasive effort writing to the Canberra Times and lobbying through associations.

He capably spanned a wide range of portfolios, when working with my husband, making significant and memorable changes to legislation for transport, infrastructure, communications and the media and the Territories for example, influencing how elections are conducted when self-government was introduced for the ACT; ensuring people no longer smoke on aeroplanes and helping to preserve diversity in media ownership with Australia.

Bogey has been a welcomed visitor and dear friend for family scattered across South Australia, Victoria and the ACT. He shared with us wine, wisdom and wit as well as many seeds, cuttings and horticultural insights that have continued to help our lives and gardens flourish. Only yesterday, one of my sons commented on the beautiful jonquils in bloom that Bogey shared with us from his mothers garden. We also have two lovely oak trees on our property in the Barossa Valley which Bogey planted for us in memory of my late husband David Vigor. Im looking forward to planting another nearby in Bogeys memory.

Despite Bogey living interstate, we stayed in regular contact and looked forward to his visits when he would arrive on foot, or more recently be picked up at the station or one of his Adelaide properties, when we could share company and conversation about the nature of the world and ways to improve it for all something Bogey worked hard towards throughout his life. Bogey will be sadly missed.

The unexpected death of Bogey Musidlak was a big shock to members of the Proportional Representation Society of Australia, of which he had been the National President since 1994. As his immediate predecessor in that position, I was very pleased when he accepted the position, which he held continuously, and most ably, until his early death in August 2017.

Bogey's competence and drive in spearheading two successful public ballots in the Australian Capital Territory were memorable. The first ballot was a 1992 advisory poll, which showed that 65% of electors on the ACT electoral roll agreed with the Hare-Clark proportional representation system being used to elect MLAs rather than having 17 single-member divisions each being won by the dominant party. It was not a binding referendum, but just an advisory poll, so the then ACT Government tried to superimpose a Group Voting Ticket contrivance onto the system, but abandoned that self-serving ploy after Bogey publicly pointed out that GVTs had not appeared on the specimen ballot papers circulated with the voting material.

The second ballot was a 1995 binding referendum to bring into law a Hare-Clark entrenchment bill the Assembly had passed under a provision of Commonwealth legislation. Bogey's team campaigned for a YES vote, and were rewarded with another 65% outcome, meaning that the Hare-Clark provisions are protected against easy opportunistic modification or repeal, as any such change requires a two-thirds majority vote in the Assembly or a further binding referendum.

My dear beloved brother Bogey,

Bogey, I feel that I learnt a great deal about politics and elections from you since I met you as the returning officer for University of Sydney SRC elections in the early to mid 1980s - and over the last few decades in the Australian Capital Territory. Your contribution to ACT democracy has been remarkable.

Boggie, thanks for nurturing my love of books, reading and learning whilst I was growing up. When things between mum and dad were dire you were the one who helped out with buying me a Puma school bag and Dunlop Volley sneakers. Thanks for your influence, you won't be forgotten, Nina xo

My sympathies to Bogey's family. I enjoyed your company and our many conversations while we were students together at Bruce Hall, and the mathematics department at ANU, in the early 1970s. I was pleased that many of my family also got to know you. You were one of mum's "favourites". Sorry to see you go, mate.

We will certainly miss Bogey and his beautifully written submissions to the JSCEM. He championed a wonderful PR system for the ACT which should be the model for all Australian jurisdictions. He will be sadly missed by many.

Gosh Bogey,
We'll miss your insightful comments and beautifully crafted writing. You kept us on track regarding proportional representation, not allowing personal bug bears to deviate us from the quest to try to develop the most democratic and elegant of electoral systems.

How can one forget the brilliant mathematical mind of the then young tall athletic Bogey Musidlak, a student at Macquarie University running home with his bag full of text books slung over his shoulder in the seventies when recruited by late Jack Wright to join PR Society, becoming a champion of Hare-Clark.
