Bonnie Jean Smith Nichols
1925 - 2013
Taylorsville, UT-Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, and friend passed away peacefully the morning of Nov.15, 2013 at the age of 88. She was a member of the LDS church. She was born May 23, 1925 in Olathe, CO. to loving parents Lawrence Leroy Smith and Pearl Dean Trickle. Bonnie and her identical twin sister Betty, were the third and fourth of nine children. She had a wonderful childhood growing up on a ranch with a big family and through the years, she shared many stories of her remarkable childhood. She graduated from Olathe high school, class of 1943, where she and her twin sister Betty, were cheerleaders and honor students. She married her high school sweetheart Roy E. Nichols, Feb.15, 1945 in San Diego, CA during WWII. They parted ways after 45 years of marriage. In past years, Mom was a Hostess at Francesco's restaurants in Granger and Midvale where she soon became famous for her scrumptious cookies and brownies, which were eventually sold at the restaurant. Over the years she recognized many patrons by name, everyone loved her. Her world revolved around her family and she loved spending time with all of them - - and she found great joy with her grand kids and great grandkids. She was an expert cook and loved fishing, camping, and gardening for countless hours in her beautiful yard in Taylorsville. She adored her dogs - Tiger, Gibson and Baby Doe. They preceded her in death and she always said they would be waiting for her at Heaven's Gate. Their tails are wagging now!
Survived by her son, Paul M. Nichols; daughters - Sharon D. Nichols (Ibrahim), and Cathi J. Davis. She had 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Shirlene Peterson, Barbara Jasperson, and Pat Bartlet. Preceding her in death were her parents, twin sister Betty, sister Faye, baby sister Louanna and her brothers Merle and Todd. They will be waiting for her with open arms. Rest peacefully, our sweet Mom - - and thanks for giving us a lifetime of love.
Funeral services will Thursday, November 21st, 11:00 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road in West Jordan. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 pm, and one hour prior to the services. A special thank you goes to her amazing caregivers at Summit Hospice; she loved Kim, Annette, and Father Wes.

As the anniversary of your passing approaches, I just want to express how grateful I am that you were my grandma. I can still hear your cute voice and the way you'd call me "dear". I can see your sparkling blue eyes. I miss your walnut brownies and your pink sugar cookies. I think of you whenever I see elaborate, hanging flower baskets, or anything in blue. You will always be my favorite, and I am blessed to have been your grandson. Rest peacefully, Grandma. Missing you every day.

Sharon: Reading your mom's obituary brought back many memories. As a Francesco customer I saw your mom many times and remember her sweet face and happy disposition, all the time having NO idea she was your mom. Small world! Of course, reading your and Paul's names took me back to the high school memories (sigh!). I'm so sorry for your loss; may your good memories and support of family and friends help you at this difficult time.

Bonnie was the most kind and loving person. She had the cutest laugh and was never angry. After taking care of her she would always always say thank you and I knew she truly meant it. She cared for her family as she would always mention lots of different names. She always asked for her dogs, especially tiger. I want to tell you Bonnie that it was a true honor to be with you as you passed. I've never experienced such a peaceful passing. Thank you for your loving and kind ways. You are missed.

Bonnie was known to all that worked with her as a real sweetheart. I love her dearly. She was always such a joy to talk to. She shared many happy memories of the ranch. I would often hear her call out to some family member. There were so many names! She loves you all. She will be remembered as the sweetest most charming person I know since my own mother. Nin was a wonderful woman who spoiled her family (especially her grandsons) She would have done anything for them. She found joy in loving and supporting them in all they did. I have wonderful memories of her, her home (with the added music room for her grandsons) and of Francesco's. I pray for her family's comfort at this time of loss.
