Bonnie Niemi Obituary

Bonnie Jean Niemi, nee Satterfield, 96, passed away at Thrive of LC in Mundelein, IL on Wed., May 31, 2023.

Bonnie was born Sept. 16th, 1926 in Kattawa, KY to Frank and Anna Grace Satterfield. She was 1 of 16 children, (9 girls and 7 boys). At a young age her family moved to Libertyville, IL, and starting 9th grade they moved to Waukegan, IL .After graduating, Bonnie met the love of her life, Francis Jacob Niemi Sr., who told his mother this was the girl he was going to marry and they did August 16, 1948! They enjoyed the beach, exercising and taking care of their bodies and each other. They were blessed with 3 boys, Frank Jr, Les, and Bruce.Their love was evident to everyone and Bonnie would tell people a shiny wedding band represents a happy marriage and hers still shines brightly! Dedicating their life to family and friends, always there for people in need, theirs was the house that all of the kids would gather. Everyone knew Bonnie as dear, sweet, and loveable! In the summertime, you would see the ladder next to the house leading up to her sundeck where she would enjoy sunbathing. Bonnie had a passion for singing, especially yodeling. We all laughed when she would sing, "Show me the way to go home".

Her motto to live by and her advice to everyone was, "Be as nice as you can to everybody; everyone has their burdens and trials they are dealing with. Be aware of as much as you can and don't judge anyone. Help everyone you can."

Bonnie's main job and the one she was most proud of was being a hands on mother, but before children she worked as a phone company operator. When the kids were in school, she worked for her sister-in-law Roses'mothers' boutique, and then a few other stores. She went on to work at a gynecologists office with two of her sisters.. She stopped working to travel with Frank on his trips, with their favorite destination being Florida beaches! Bonnie and Frank enjoyed a very happy, successful marriage until his passing on Aug. 29, 2002

Bonnie is survived by her three sons, Frank (Gail), Les (Linda), Bruce (Suzi); grandchildren, Jill (Scott) Caspary, Jack (Kathy), Scott (Michelle), Les Jr (Tara), and April (Kevin) Mallek; many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters Donna (Bud) and Babe Anderson, and brother Hal (Joan).

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, parents (Frank and Anna), 6 sisters, 6 brothers and many other family members and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Charities-Meals on Wheels or St. Judes. A private service will be held at a later date.

Our deepest sympathies to the family of this amazing woman...although I only saw you very occasionally over the years I do remember your beautiful smile and what a devoted wife and mother you were. Rest easy Bonnie, you´re with Frank again.
