BONNIE TYLER Obituary
Bonnie Beth Tyler (Age 96)
Bonnie Tyler, a long-time resident of Garrett Park, died peacefully in her sleep on August 11, 2021. Bonnie was born on March 11, 1925, in Pawnee City, Nebraska, to Edith Kendall Wallis and Wilfred Wallis, a Methodist minister. She worked for the Army during WWII, graduated from DePauw University, and earned her PhD in clinical psychology at Ohio State University. Bonnie taught for many years in the Department of Human Development at the University of Maryland, College Park. She was on the Board of Directors for Parents Against Child Abuse, received a Governor's citation for working to implement Title IX at the University, and chaired the Chancellor's Commission on Women for several years. After retiring from teaching she was on the staff of the Child Center and Adult Services in Gaithersburg, working primarily with children. Bonnie is survived by her sons, Tom and Ted; her daughter, Beth; and her granddaughter, Emma. She leaves behind many dear friends and family members, who remember her warm smile and welcoming spirit. A memorial service will be held via Zoom on Sunday, October 3, at 1 p.m.

Dr. Tyler was my advisor at the University. She was to be admired and respected and was by all of those in my cohort. It was sad to read of her passing.

My condolences on the loss of your wonderful mother. She brightened our aqua aerobics classes at the Bethesda Chevy Chase Y. She shared conversation,
her favorite books and news of family with us during the 11 years I attended from 1999 to 2010. I remember how delighted she was with the new car you gave her so she could travel safely on winter mornings. She always looked forward to her visits with you in NYC or Long Island. She lived a beautiful life, and never alluded to all her accomplishments improving the lives of children.
