Bradford Franks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 25, 2014.
Bradford Scott Franks, 69, of Cincinnati, Ohio and Bradenton, Florida, died unexpectedly on Saturday October 25, 2014. His death came while he was playing in a golf tournament in Savannah, Georgia. For those who knew Brad well, passing away on a golf course was the most appropriate way to conclude a life well lived and well played. Brad was born on July 26, 1945 in Wooster, Ohio, to Wilbur Franks Jr. and Nancy Conn Franks Irving. He was a graduate of Wooster High School, and received his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. Brad had a lifelong love of sports and was an accomplished collegiate swimmer. But his love was golf and he played for both his high school and college teams. He went on to win many tournaments in the US and abroad and spent several years playing on the Senior Pro Tour. One of his proudest golf moments was when he hit a hole in one at the Senior British Open in 1999. Brad spent much of his professional career as a successful salesman. In 1983 he launched his own business, Cincinnati Metals Company, now one of the largest stocking wire distributors in North America. The company is still thriving today and will continue to be run by his daughter, son-in-law and dedicated staff. Brad was a loving father to three daughters and is survived by them: Michelle (Geoff) Franks Greenfield, Amy (Brian) Franks Hanley and Jennifer (John) Franks Cooper. He was an extremely proud and caring grandfather to 7 grandchildren and is survived by all of them: Aidan and Robin Greenfield; Jack and Mia Hanley; and Logan, Grayson and Eden Cooper. He is survived by his mother Nancy Irving, his two sisters Lois Semer and Edalynn (Tim) Weiss, and also by his two step sisters Jane (Mark) Baserman and Holly (John) Durst. Brad was preceded in death by his father Wilbur Franks Jr., his stepfather George Irving and his brother-in-law Charles Semer. Visitation will be held at Gilligan Funeral Home (8225 Montgomery Road) in Cincinnati on Sunday, November 2 from 5:30 to 7:30pm. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Michael Hailey of Bradenton, Florida and will be held at Crossroads Community Church of Oakley (3500 Madison Road) in the chapel at 10:30am on Monday, November 3. Graveside burial service will be held at the Wooster Cemetery in Wooster, Ohio on Tuesday, November 4 at 12 noon. A lunch reception at TJ's Restaurant (359 West Liberty St., Wooster) will follow the burial and is open to family and friends. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Crossroads Community Church (www.crossroads.net) or to New Day Church, The Grace Place (www.newdaychurchbrandon.org).
