Bradford King Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 12, 2025.
Bradford Everett King, 65, of West Hartford Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2025.

Born in 1959 to Nancy and Harold King in New York City, Brad split his childhood between the bustle of the city and the tranquility of Ocean Beach, Fire Island. The family's home there, lovingly named King's Ransom, was a cherished refuge where love, laughter, and friendship flourished.

After earning his psychology degree from the University of Hartford in 1981, Brad studied at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU), receiving his Teacher Certification in 1986. He went on to teach Math, Science, Photography, and Computer Science at the progressive Randolph School in Wappingers Falls, New York, for over 24 years. There he passed on his love of learning, teaching students to respect each other, persevere through challenges, and show compassion for all living things. He remained a dedicated member of the Randolph School board after ending his time as a teacher in 2011.

That same year, Brad relocated to West Hartford and returned to CCSU to get his master's degree in mathematics and certification to teach middle school math. In 2013 he began teaching middle-school Math within the Connecticut Public School system, where he continued to inspire students and faculty for twelve years. Reading the inscriptions in last year's yearbook from Long Range Middle School in Prospect, Connecticut, where Brad taught for the last decade, many of his students wrote variations of "you're the best teacher ever," and "you made learning fun."

In addition to his love of teaching, Brad was an avid music fan, world traveler, and life-long cyclist. He recently, at the age of 65, completed the Bloomin' Metric Century - a 63-mile ride through some of the most lovely and bucolic backroads of Connecticut. At the time of his death, he was planning a trip Europe to ride some of the same official cycling routes as the Tour de France.

Brad was strong, courageous, kind, loving, inclusive, and not afraid of life. His smile was genuine, kind, endearing, and something that the rest of us will never forget. He was a teddy bear, with a hug so big it might have saved you from therapy. His caring and loving soul was always present in the way he taught his students, the way he treated others, and in the sparkle in his eyes.

Brad's legacy also continues as an organ donor - brining life to those who received his organs, so they can be with their families a little longer, as well as by helping further scientific discoveries that may benefit us all. Brad's remains have been transformed into soil to nourish the earth. A Memorial and Tree Planting Ceremony will be held on October 4, 2025, at 2:00 pm at The Randolph School, 2467 NY-9D, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590

Brad was predeceased by his cherished wife Susan Todd Mullis and beloved brother Jeffery Allen King. He is survived by his son, Marcus King, Daughter-in-law, Dorothy Perkins, and Sister-in-law, Cherie King. He has friends across the globe, some from more than 50 years ago, and influenced students who now live successful lives across the United States in a variety of STEM fields. We'll be looking for his smile and pass on his hugs. We will meet again.
