Izhar Shy

Izhar Shy, age 88, of North Tustin, CA, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2022 from stomach cancer. He was born in Romania and immigrated to Israel at 16. He met his wife of 65 years, Nitza Rudawsky, in Israel. They immigrated to the US in the 1960s so he could earn a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from MIT and work for GE. In 1968, they moved to California and Izhar started his own computer company. He developed software for many customers including the election system for Oslo, Norway and an operating system for the US Navy. He retired in 1981, then earned another Masters in Computer Science from UCI. Izhar loved traveling, learning new things, getting together with family and friends, making new acquaintances and telling jokes. He is survived by his loving wife, Nitza Shy, his two daughters, Hadar (and John) Hawk of Carlsbad, CA and Ruth (and Peter) Whalen of Centennial, CO, his 5 grandchildren, Rebecca Hawk (and Sam Fujimori) of Portland, OR, Rachel Whalen of New York, NY, Kathleen Whalen of Madison, WI, Julie Hawk of Irvine, CA, and Jack Whalen of Fort Collins, CO. For those wishing to honor his memory, the family suggests a donation to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) in his name. Family and friends are welcome to join us at Harbor Lawn-Mt.Olive Memorial Park & Mortuary (1625 Gisler Ave, Costa Mesa, CA 92626) for a memorial service on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at noon.
