Brant WRAGG Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Apr. 1, 2017.

WRAGG, Brant Anderson
November 2, 1947 - January 27, 2017
Brant passed away peacefully after a 13-year battle with primary progressive aphasia. Brant's wife, Anne, was with him when he was set free. Brant (aka Greenard and Oily) was predeceased by his parents Frank and Dorothy Wragg and by his sister Barbara Butzelaar. Born in Vancouver, Brant attended Prince of Wales high school and UBC. Brant was a supervisor with the Coast Mountain Bus Company. He was a baseball pitcher in his younger years and moved on to Rugby and refereeing with the UBC Old Boys. However, Brant's biggest love was the game of golf. He was a long-time member of Marine Drive Golf Club and played whenever he could, locally and around the world. He married Anne (Bodnar) 25 years ago and they both shared their mutual love of travel, Maui, golf and fine wine. Brant will be remembered by his "Sleek" family, Rugby buddies, golf partners and loving friends. He will never be forgotten by his wife Anne, brother-in-law Tony Butzelaar, and in-laws David and Marilyn Bodnar and John and Susan Bodnar. His pride were his nieces and nephew, Emma, Hamish and Isabel Bodnar. We will all miss him. Many thanks to the care he received at the German Canadian Care home. Especially the special care from Amanda. There will be no service but please raise a glass and pass on a fun story, poem or song in memory of Brant.
My mind still talks to you.
My heart still looks for you.
My soul knows you are at peace.

Green! You left too early. I think I met you first with Georgians and then the Old Boys/Ravens. Whenever I saw a Coast Bus in trouble, at least downtown, I saw you there in, not red-flashing lights, but yellow-flashing ones. Of course, your were a great Rugby contributor via referreing and hoisting a few pints. Pleasure to meet you and good bless your family

When Brant wanted to join Marine Drive Golf Club he approached me to see if I could help him. I arranged a meeting with my dad Jim, Club President at the time in the lobby of the Club. He came down the stairs, looked at me and looked at Brant. A pregnant pause and said to Brant, my dad said to him, "Al says your a good guy, are you?" Brant responded, "Yes". My dad said, "Great your in, welcome to Marine!" It was the first time I saw Brant speechless. We turned around and left. The reason for the story, Brant Wragg is a Great Guy and will always be with me. Have fun playing with Arnold. Your friend, Al Borthwick

Brant should have been an actor. he didn't just recite "dead Parrot", he became John Cleese. Greens also pitched hardball at oppenheimer park after playing rugby. He didn't just pitch, he was Tug McGraw or Rolle Fingers. He had an alter ego in there that showed up. I'll bet he wasfun to watch with his neices and nephew, and I am so glad Brant was so well loved.

Brant and I were housemates for a time "back in the day" and spent many a Tuesday night across from each other at the poker table. I never got tired of hearing his rendition of the "dead parrot" or the "cheese shoppe". Greens was a very funny, gentle guy. I am sad he has left us but glad his suffering is over.
