Brenda Dupuy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 16 to Jul. 22, 2021.
Brenda Wallbillich Dupuy passed away on July 1, 2021 at the age of 85. Her proud and loving parents, Stephen Joseph and Violet Lotz Wallbillich welcomed her to this world on March 2, 1936. She was born in New Orleans and spent her middle school years in Harlingen, TX while her father worked for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Lower Rio Grande Flood Control Project. Prior to her high school years, Brenda's father was relocated to New Orleans and Brenda attended Ursuline Academy, graduating in 1953. Brenda earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Sophie Newcomb College at Tulane University in three years in order to get her parent's blessing to marry the love of her life, Edward Larry Dupuy. Shortly after they were married Brenda and Larry moved to Dallas for about four years. Brenda loved to travel and play bridge with friends. These activities were her preferred way to foster valued friendships from Ursuline Academy, Newcomb College and Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, Dallas and her pre and post-Katrina neighborhoods in New Orleans. She truly loved keeping up with her friends and she had a knack for quickly making new friends wherever she went. Although Brenda was an only child, she had a large extended family who cared for her deeply. Her friends and family were very helpful to her as she struggled with the loss of Larry shortly after her 60th birthday, the loss of her home in Katrina and the suffering she endured with arthritis in her later years. Brenda showed us all how strong she was as she faced those struggles. Brenda is survived by her son, George Lotz Dupuy (Bridget) of New Orleans, daughter Elizabeth Lubel (Glenn) of Pensacola Beach, granddaughter Mary Devon Dupuy (Geoffrey Gauchet) and great grandson Oscar George Gauchet. A memorial service will be held at the chapel at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Thursday July 22 at 1 p.m. Visitation will begin at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brenda's memory to Ursuline Academy, 2635 State Street, New Orleans, LA 70018 would be welcomed by the family. Met Brenda in 8th grade at Ursuline Academy. Although we weren't close friends, she was always pleasant and kind to me. In later years, we attended the same church so saw her regularly. She hadn't changed. Still pleasant as ever. Deepest sympathy to those who were close to her, particularly her family, George, Elizabeth, Mary, and Oscar.

Brenda and I have been good friends since 5th grade at Ursuline to this very day. We lived only a few blocks from each other and enjoyed many fun times growing up. My deepest sympathy to each of you on your loss.

George, I am thinking of you. Your mom and mine were at Newcomb together. How fortunate to have her for so many years and for her to know a great grand child!
Much Love, Meg
