Charles Schobinger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 11, 2011.
86, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, friend, volunteer, instructor, salesman, leader and advocate of free enterprise. Chuck owned two businesses: Pearce Drill Steel and Central Western Sales. Concurrently, he volunteered: Boy Scout leader, National Director of the Ski Patrol System, President of Sales Pros, and inductee (1992) and board member of the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. Even though born in Chicago (March 3, 1925), Chuck is a true Coloradan. His first trip to Estes Park at age 4 started a love affair. He graduated with a civil engineering degree from CU (1942-45) where he played football and basketball. After serving in the Navy during WWII, he settled in Denver, but he spent weekends in Georgetown and Estes Park - skiing, hiking and mountain climbing. Preceded in death by his sister, Ramie Ginther, and survived by his wife, Mary, brother (Gene Schobinger and wife Gwen of Port Angeles, WA), daughters (Mary Lou Sumioka and husband, Steve, of Seattle and Julie Wagner and husband, Mike, of Tucson), three grandsons (Michael Stanchak, Graham and wife, Erica, and Gordon Sumioka), a new great granddaughter, Blair Sumioka, a niece (April Ginther husband, Yon, and son, Nicholas, of Lafayette, IN) and a nephew (Dean Ginther wife, Sharon of Elk Lake, MI and sons Devin and Darin of Austin, TX). Schob's leadership will be missed. Memorial service: Monday, March 14, 2011, Olinger Chapel Hill, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Littleton, CO 80121 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum or Colorado Sales Pros Scholarship Fund. Please visit www.olingerchapelhill.com to offer condolences.

Dear Mary and Family,
We are praying for you at this most difficult time. It was our pleasure to attend the memorial service for Chuck...learned some things about Chuck in the ski industry that we did not know. We have such fond memories of skiing with you two and our times at your Georgetown home with you, Roy and Freen.
Our sympathy to all of you,
Marcia and Dave

Dear Mary,

Hart informed me of your tragic loss. My heart goes out to you and your family at this time. Chuck was larger than life in every way. I'm so glad we were together a year ago at Lake Tahoe, celebrating his participation in the 1960 Olympic Ski Patrol.

With deep condolences and fond regards,

Dear Mary & Family,
Kit called me this morning to let me know of Chuck's passing. What a great time I always had with him and you both. My fondest memory is of him driving in the mountains and turning off his headlights. Scared the dickens out of us! We will always keep a fond place in our hearts for Chuck.
