Brenda Lynette Hicks

Brenda Lynette Hicks, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, fell asleep in death on September 22, 2023. She was born on January 18, 1953 in Staten Island, New York. She was the daughter of William and Georgia C. Hicks and the youngest of 3 siblings.

Brenda was introduced to Jehovah and allowed the truth to transform her life. Her strong love for Jehovah moved her to dedicate her life to serve Him on September 16, 1989. For many years, she served as a regular pioneer and had an undeniable zeal for the ministry. She witnessed to all whom she came in contact with. When she was hospitalized, she took advantage of every opportunity to express her faith to hospital staff.

Brenda's faith never wavered even when facing the 'terrorist' of cancer, as she called it. Her desire to please Jehovah, even if it meant her life, was evident and she maintained her integrity until the very end. She was a 'people person' who loved all things purple. She enjoyed dancing and playing cards, especially 'Bid Whist'. She was loved throughout her community and was well known for her original sense of style and her raw talent in writing poetry. She developed a large portfolio of original poetry, much of which she committed to memory. She often used her gift to uplift and encourage others.

Many of us will remember some of her favorite sayings and terms of endearment that will linger on: "Accent the positive. Eliminate the negative. Latch onto the affirmative and don't mess with Mr. In-between." "Plant you now, dig you later."

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Clarence Wayne Hicks and William Bobby Hicks. She is survived by her 6 children, Keisha Hicks, Shaun Hicks, Sadequa Burgos, Rasheed Hicks (Marie), Saeed Hicks, and Enjoli Hicks; 18 grandchildren: Rashon Jennings, Jalisa Jennings, Laura Camy, Essence Moore, Devon Redman, Sha-kim Hicks, Sean Hicks, Mia Hicks, Aleshia Burgos, Richard Burgos, Shaquan Hicks, Rasheed Hicks, Rashad Hicks, Christion Thomas, Airys Hicks, Aria Hicks, Denaia Curry, Sasha Hicks; 9 great grandchildren.
