Brent Lee Bowers

Brent Lee Bowers passed away on July 1, 2023 at Eastern Shore Rehabilitation and Health Center in Daphne, AL.

Brent was born on March 9, 1948 in Muskogee, OK to Norman and Beverly Bowers. He attended Central High School in Muskogee where he was active in band, and discovered a lifelong passion for the trumpet. Brent and his family relocated to Greenville, MS in 1966. Shortly thereafter, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, where his musical talent led to an assignment in the Army Band. He spent time in Germany, and in later years cherished these memories. He was always moved by the sound of soldiers playing "Taps."

Following discharge from the Army, Brent returned to Greenville, where he pursued an insurance career. He ultimately became a partner in Sorrells, Bowers, and Coats, a leading independent adjusting firm in the area. He was an active member of the Mississippi Claims Association, and was elected to serve as president in 1990. Throughout his insurance career, Brent traveled to numerous sites of major catastrophes, providing claim service to those in need.

Brent had many interests. He continued to enjoy music in later years. He loved sports, including golf, baseball, and NASCAR. He also enjoyed military history, reading Louis L'Amour novels, and watching old Westerns, especially Gunsmoke and Bonanza.

Brent is survived by his wife of 39 years, Karen; his children, Lori Skelton (Rob) of Collierville, TN; Rickey Bowers of Port Gibson, MS; Josh Bowers of Fairhope, AL; his sister, Brenda Mancini (Paul) of Carrollton, MS; his five grandchildren; one nephew; and his beloved dog, Bea.

Arrangements for a private "Celebration of Life" service in Mississippi will be announced at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Brent's name to the American Heart Association (800-242-8721/www.heart.org).
