Brent Statton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 24 to Sep. 25, 2011.
April 3, 1941 - Sept 18, 2011 Brent died suddenly at home, leaving a great gap in the lives of family and friends. Predeceased by parents Bill and Janet, he is survived by his wife Joyce, son Joel (Kathleen Kerr), daughter Hilary (Sam Chow), grandchildren Nyla and Pelham Statton and Celeste Chow, his Calgary cousins, Dawn Huggard and Maureen Dougherty, and sister, Roberta Hunter. Born in Calgary, Brent moved to Vancouver as a child, graduated from UBC and, from 1965 on was involved in the airline industry through its many changes until his last role at Harmony Airways. In retirement he redefined himself as "chef extraordinaire," outrigger canoe paddler on his annual Maui stays, and, most importantly, "Kappa" to his grandchildren, the light and joy of his life. He lived by the motto "I'm a lover not a fighter," with respect and genuine caring for others. A true friend, loving father and grandfather, modest in his own accomplishments, yet always encouraging of others', he will be greatly missed.

Friends and colleagues are invited to a gathering in memory of Brent; email [email protected] for details. Charitable donations are welcome in lieu of flowers.

Dear Joyce, Joel and Hilary,
We were so sorry to hear about your recent loss. The death of a loved one always comes as a shock.
We have very fond memories of Brent, having fun together skiing at Whistler.
We are hoping you find peace in all the happy memories you shared.

I will never forget the messy office, sense of humour, funny stories and the great laugh!
The airline industry lost a pioneer of aviation.
Rest in peace Brent.

Joyce and family,
When we lose someone we love it seems that time stands still. What moves through us is a silence, a longing for one more day. No one is ready to say goodbye, but we begin to remember that he lived and that his life gave you so many memories too wonderful to forget. May those memories bring you the peace and comfort that Brent would want for you.
Best, Michelle

Hi Joyce and family - Thanks to our mutual great friend Norman I have learned from far-away Toronto of Brent's passing. The three of us worked closely together many years ago at CP Air. We became not just business associates but also personal friends. I always admired a) Brents brainpower and b) his loyalty and support for his friends. Wish I could be with you at this difficult time. Best John McNeil

Joyce : I was so sad to see the recent announcement - as you know, Brent and I were Fraternity brothers and he was one of the reasons I joined Delta Kappa Epsilon. As we saw each other over the years, he was always genuinely intersted in what I was up to and always there with a smile. May the many happy memories soon replace the sadness that you and all of his family must be feeling as a result of his passing.

Dearest Joyce,Joel and Hilary,

My thoughts are with you right now. I feel very blessed to have known Brent and grown up with all of you. He was truly one of the most caring loving people I have ever known. Always happy to see you and genuinely interested in our life adventures. May you all find some peace at this time remembering his delightful sense of humor and how fortunate we all were to have him in our lives. Love and light to you all.
