Bret BANISTER Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 14 to Nov. 15, 2016.
BANISTER, Bret
Bret Banister was born on March 12, 1959, and passed away peacefully at the age of 57 on the morning of November 11, 2016. In his last days he was completely and constantly surrounded by his family and friends and their love and prayers.
As a loving and gentle husband, father, son, and brother, Bret will be missed by his beloved wife Robin, his treasured children, Katherine, Natalie, and Madeline, his mother Joy Banister, sisters Leslie, Farrah, and Brooke, along with their significant others and his nieces and nephews.

Bret's family was the apple of his eye, and his happiest times were when they were all together cooking, boating, dancing, traveling, or enjoying Bret's favorite music. He held each one close to his heart, leading and loving them well.

Bret touched so many lives in many different ways. He will always be remembered by the twinkle in his eye, his storytelling abilities, his approachability, and his desire to laugh and have a lot of fun. Everyone who knew Bret will always be able to smile effortlessly remembering the good times spent with him. Bret's family life, profession and hobbies pointed to the fact that he loved people and people loved him. He gave passionately, never wanting to disappoint.
Bret was an authentic Austinite and a proud Longhorn, having attended Casis Elementary School, O. Henry Middle School and Austin High School prior to graduating from the University of Texas with a business degree and an M.B.A. He was founder and President of Banister Homes, Inc. He had a unique ability to develop relationships in the architectural, construction, and interior design sectors which has driven company success since 1990.
Bret had an open heart. With Robin by his side, he showed this by continually helping family and friends in need. They served others individually and corporately in many ways: financially, sharing wisdom and providing a quick escape to fun and laughter.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd located at 3201 Windsor Road in Austin, Texas.

We want to thank the heroic efforts made by St. David's Hospital South, Seton Cardiovascular Services, and in particular Bill Kessler, M.D. and his wife Nicole.

The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Bret's name be directed to The Seton Fund, Cardiovascular Services, 1201 West 38th Street, Austin, TX 78705, or The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 2206 Exposition Blvd, Austin, TX 78703.

I first met Bret when we were both children. We remained in contact up until our graduation from Austin High. While our paths crossed only a few times since then, he continued to radiate a kindness of spirit which always brought back fond memories of our youth. I am glad he had the opportunity to share this kind spirit with a wonderful family of his own. I wish his family my condolences.

It was with sadness when I found out that Bret had passed, and I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of young Bret when the Banisters lived next to my family in the early 1960s.

Bret was the kind of neighbor you always hoped to have. It was a sad day when he moved and now my heart is filled with sadness for Robin, his family, and those close to him. His kind and generous nature was appreciated and is obvious his passing leaves a void for so many in his life. Blessings to each of you and blessings to you Bret.

Bret and I attended UT together, and over the ensuing 25 years we'd cross paths and always share a laugh.
Bret just always seemed to be there when I needed him, and he helped me immensely through some tough times. I still want to pick up the phone and chat with him. Condolences to Robin and the girls - it's a difficult loss for me; I can only imagine how you feel.

Bret was a wonderful friend to me for 37 years. He was kind, funny, happy, generous, light hearted, honest, loyal and I was blessed to have known him well. I am also extremely grateful to have been able to visit him in the final days and talk to him and hold his hand. Thank you Robin for allowing me to go in and see him. It's always so hard to say farewell to someone like Bret that made such a big difference in so many peoples lives. I pray for Robin and the girls and the rest of his family and friends. You will forever be missed on this Earth Bret but Heaven is getting another Angel. Love you and miss you my friend!

I am so sorry for your loss. Although I didn't know Bret, I do know his Sister Brooke and he sounds (from reading the obitiuary) just like her. I will pray for the family. It makes my heart even more sad to hear of children without a father (and wife lossing her help mate). However, I know from personal experience that God can be a father for them, just ask him. It's hard to lose someone so special in your life ( husband, son, brother, Uncle, Cousin, friend, etc.). May your pain be eased by the only God who can easy the pain. "Lord, you ease the pain ... " is a song that I hear in my head as I try to express these words of comfort. He can & will do it. My prayers are with you all at this sorrowful time. May God bless and keep you.

I knew Bret briefly from working with him and Katherine on bid proposals and invoicing. Bret was always so courteous and friendly when I would visit their office to either pick up plans or checks. Bret always had a smile on his face. It was a total shock to hear of his passing. My sincere and deepest sympathy to Katherine and the family.

We have known Bret for over 25 years. We bought one of his spec homes in the 1990s and when we saw his sign on a lot in Westlake, we had him build a house for us. A few years later, he talked us into selling our home and he built another one for us. Such a big heart and smile, a can do person who always put his customers first. Bret and David became a part of our family for so many years. He was one of those rare people who would offer to help you any time. Bret was a devoted father and family man. We owe so much to him. We offer our deepest condolences to his family. He will be missed so much by those who had a privilege to know him.
