Brian Barrett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 7, 2023.
Brian Royce Barrett, age 58, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away March 3, 2023 in hospice care from complications of cancer. He was surrounded with family members during this time.

Brian was born on September 17, 1964 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He mostly grew up in southwest Ohio, including Gano and Morrow, where he graduated from Little Miami High School in 1984.

After high school, Brian became a talented cabinetmaker and worked in various woodworking shops. He traveled and worked in different states before returning to Ohio. He spent much of his time living in Columbus, Ohio with his then wife and friend, Connie Boggs-Barrett, and their son, Aidan. Aidan was the love of his life and his greatest achievement.

Brian was a talented woodworking artist. Most recently, Brian moved to Georgia where he worked for the film industry in set production and was a proud member of IATSE Local 479.

He was also a self-taught guitar player. As a young man, Brian was often in a band and "rock" was his forte'. We were proud of him making it all the way to Bogart's in Cincinnati!

He was always making others laugh with his wit and humor. Brian was often making fun of himself. For instance, Brian lost part of his left pinky finger in a work accident. It was not uncommon for him to name it, dress it up with hats, or act like he was placing it in his nose for pictures!

Brian was preceded in death by father Royce Barrett, mother Linda Phelps, grandmother Cressie Farmer, and grandparents Roy and Ruth Barrett. He leaves behind former wife and friend Connie Boggs-Barrett, son Aidan Barrett, siblings Krishna Barrett, Scot Barrett (Andrea), Brad Broerman, Brooke Broerman, and Julie Phelps-Bradbury (Daron), aunt Cheryl Sharp, and several cousins.

Currently, the family is honoring Brian privately, but please consider donating in this manner to cover final costs:

Brian is my first cousin and one of my favorite people on the planet. I´m still in shock that he´s gone; I´m still waiting for him to recover from a minor traffic accident.
My heart goes out to his son Aidan, who is Brian´s favorite person on the planet. All the pieces came together for Brian the minute Aidan was born. I´ll be forever grateful that he has such an amazing mom to look after him. Brian´s spirit will never leave them.
I´ll be forever thankful for Brian´s sister Julie and brother Scot for staying with him to the end. I can´t imagine the strength needed in those moments. I´m comforted knowing Brian left this earth surrounded by such genuine love and support.
I´m going to miss Brian´s laugh, his bear hugs, and listening to him talk about music and Aidan. I hope to see my sweet cousin on the other side.

My memories of my cousin Brian are from the best part of my life, my time spent with Mamaw as a child. My sister, Lisa, and I spent every summer and every holiday with our cousins Brian and Jimmy at Mamaw´s house growing up. We did everything together. We went to Vacation Bible School; picked blackberries and crabapples; rehearsed for Christmas pageants at the Gano Church; had Easter egg hunts; and went trick-or-treating at Mamaw´s for her famous popcorn balls! We had a sweet, simple life with Mamaw and all of us were blessed to have Mamaw and each other! I know Brian is in Heaven now giving Mamaw one of his big bear hugs!

Brian was my neighbor while we attended Little Miami. I remember sitting and listening to him play at home and with the band. He was a bright, shining soul with a smile that made his eyes sparkle. Such good memories of him! Rest in piece, and rock on, Brian!
