Brian Catalano Obituary

(October 9, 1978 - July 28, 2024)

Brian Vincent Catalano was born October 9, 1978, to Robert and Carolyn Catalano. He was born in Newport Beach, California and attended schools in San Ramon including California High School (Class of 1996) and continued his education at San Diego State University and Chico State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Finance.

Brian Catalano was a resident of Clayton, California, and he was only 45 at the time of his tragic passing. Brian or "Cat" as affectionately known to his friends, was the beloved husband of Allyson (Crosby) Catalano and the father of Ava Marie Catalano (age 10 and a student at Tabernacle School, Concord, CA). Brian and Allyson met at work in 2007, and they married on November 2, 2013. They were blessed by the birth of their daughter, Ava, on August 15, 2014.

His greatest joy was his family. His devotion to Allyson and Ava was unwavering and nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by his family and friends, and his beloved labrador "Doug". He cherished every single moment being a Dad to Ava. Brian will fondly be remembered for his unconditional devotion to his family as a loving husband, son, father, friend, coach, and an amazing brother. He had a magnetic personality, was always looking out for everyone, and ready for the next adventure. He will be greatly missed.

Brian loved being a soccer coach and participating in all of Ava's activities from swim team, soccer to hiking. Some Daddy-Daughter traditions with Ava included painting rocks and mysteriously planting them in neighbors' front yards, playing golf at Oakhurst and hiking as a family up to their 'special' tree with the swing to enjoy the view across the valley just in time to catch the beautiful sunset.

Brian also enjoyed planning family trips to Lake Tahoe, Mexico, Arizona, Boston and Hawaii. A tradition he always looked forward to was traveling to Boston for Christmas every other year to spend the holiday with his Mom and Sister's family. They always had so many special activities planned.

He was a frequent visitor to a local gym, where he was very disciplined about his fitness regime. He treasured his Friday afternoon golf routine with his dear buddies at Oakhurst Country Club, and surrounding California golf courses.

Brian was a popular and beloved neighbor where his neighbors were truly like family. He often hosted parties and rallied the neighborhood for some family fun. He was a lover of food and often took on the chef role at many family and neighborhood functions. He shared this passion for cooking with his mother Carolyn and together they created many memorable and delicious meals. They created many recipes from scratch. Brian traveled to local specialty markets for the best meat or chilis and visited farmers markets in the area with his family.

Brian loved sports of all types, but especially the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. His passion for sports continued as he coached Ava's soccer team. Brian loved the beach, and many weekends took them to Capitola Beach, where he grew up vacationing with his sister. A more recent hobby was skiing and snowboarding with his wife and daughter in Lake Tahoe. He enjoyed boating days at the lake with family and friends. Brian loved getaways with his friends to play golf or just being together and reminiscing about their younger years. He brought together his different friend circles, as everyone wanted to form a friendship with 'Cat'.

Brian worked for many years in Tech Sales and spent the last five years at Dell Corporation as an Account Executive for Data Protection Services. He was very successful at Dell and loved his Team, his Partners, and his Public Sector / State of California Customers. Many of Brian's customers and colleagues have reached out to share condolences on his untimely passing. Brian made a big impact both personally and professionally on everyone he encountered. He was a great leader on the Dell team, always volunteering to help share advice, while also offering humor to the team. He is greatly missed by his team and amongst his client base. Brian previously worked at StorageCraft, ExaGrid, Seagate, EVault, and Synnex. At every job he held he made lifelong friends and new golf buddies. He won many Sales Leadership awards over his career, taking him and Allyson on amazing sales recognition trips.

Brian was preceded in death by his father and stepmother Robert & Sue Catalano. He is survived by his beloved wife Allyson and daughter Ava (age 10), his Mother Carolyn Catalano, his sister Amy Catalano Survilas, his Aunt Sandy and Uncle Roy Amundson, his in-laws Linda and Larry Crosby, his grandmother in-law Dixie Braas, and his many sisters and brothers-in-law including Luke Survilas, Andrea and Kris Hagen, Nick Crosby, Heather Crosby, and the late Kevin Crosby. He was the loving uncle of Brett (age 21), Alyssa (age 19), Kaylee (age 18), Aidan (age 17), Noah (age 15), Addie (age 15), Ella (age 13), and Brady (age 10), as well as numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Everyone will miss Brian's calm and confident demeanor, infectious smile, and positive outlook on life. The world has lost a truly beautiful human being.

My name is Cassie Gonzales. Brian and my son, Cameron Carrillo, and a few other skateboarding boys, all hung around together in their junior high years. All were very nice boys. I remember one particular day, Cameron had spent the night at the Catalano's house and when I went to pick him up, he was sitting on the couch looking like a deer in the headlights. Apparently, the boys had all been skateboarding that morning and Cameron flew off of his and broke his arm. Not wanting to call me and alarm me that he was in pain, the boys all sat with him on the couch, patiently waiting, to see if the pain would go away. I think of that morning and the looks on all their faces each time I drive through San Ramon. I have often wondered what ever happened to Brian. Now I know. I will certainly tell Cameron. He has been in So. California all of his adult life. My heart goes out to Brian's family during this very difficult time. Brian was a beautiful and compassionate young boy, as I last knew him. May God Bless all of his family as you continue to process your great loss and work through healing.

My first memory of Brian was walking him as a baby in diapers up and down the sidewalk in front of their house as Carolyn was getting ready for a family party. He was crying and crying in his baritone voice I couldn“t believe a baby had a voice like that!
