Brian Cox Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 27 to Mar. 28, 2023.
Brian Richard Cox of Burlington, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, March 22,2023 of natural causes at the age of 27. Brian was born in Suffern, New York. Brian spent most of his childhood loving and exploring the picturesque scenery and landscape of the outdoors of upstate New York. He graduated Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, New York. Brian then graduated with an Associates Degree in Science on his way to attending the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry.

It was in Wilmington that he met the absolute love of his life, his wife Dorothy. They were wed in June of 2020 and they shared a love that most only dream is possible. They began their life and recently purchased their first house in Burlington, North Carolina where Brian relished in the opportunity to work as a Scientist at Burleson Research Technologies in Cary, NC where he developed protocols and improved processes to advance scientific research. Together Brian and Dorothy loved exploring the outdoor environment of the lakes, rivers, and trails while walking their beloved dog Garnet. As dedicated animal enthusiasts, they also rescued their cats Tea Cup and Marcy and enjoyed their company daily. They also made it a hobby to frequently visit and enjoy the beaches of Eastern North Carolina, the mountains of Western North Carolina, and all outdoor activities in between. Brian loved music and drawing, and he created beautiful music and intriguing art.

In addition to his beloved wife Dorothy, Brian is survived by his parents Chris & Maryellen Cox of Surf City, NC, his brother Christopher (fianc? Erica Margeson) of Jacksonville, NC, his sister Katie (fianc? Matthew Zaitz) of Wendell, NC, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Missy and Kevin Reynolds of Carolina Beach, NC, his sister-in-law Sydney Reynolds of Carolina Beach, NC, his aunt Ariana Dalton of Westtown, NY, his aunt and uncle Jane and Sean Dalton of Glen Rock, NJ, his aunts Cynthia Cox and Jacqueline Phillips of Greenwood Lake, NY, his aunt and uncle Jennifer and Timothy Cox of Northwood, NH as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Brian was known by all those he touched as a kind, loving, and generous soul. He would give his last meal to someone who was hungry, his last dollar to someone in need, and open his home and heart to all who wandered this world. His philosophy was, "they need it more than me". There are not many who know Brian that have not been touched by the wealth of his knowledge, the talent of his many artistic gifts, and the warmth of his heart.

In lieu of flowers, Dorothy and his family have decided to establish an annual Brian Richard Cox Memorial Scholarship fund to help neurodivergent students graduating North Carolina High Schools who wish to pursue a degree in the Sciences. It has always been his purpose to selflessly help others in need, and we can not think of a better way to honor his spirit than to continue his legacy of generosity without reciprocity. Temporarily a GoFundMe has been established until a non for profit annual scholarship account is established in Brian's honor. Please contact https://gofund.me/a250723a

In Brian's Honor, as someone who advocated for those who could not always speak for themselves...if you want to make a difference, Be Kind.

A Funeral with family and friends will be held to honor Brian's life and legacy on Wednesday March 29th at 2pm at The Old Homestead Farm, 8824 US Highway 117 South, Rocky Point, NC 28457.
