Brian Cox Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 16, 2023.
Brian Cox passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday December 6, 2023. He was born on August 27, 1959 in Irving, Texas to Elizabeth Ann (Bogan) Cox and Donald Lee Cox.

Brian Lee was always a cowboy at heart. Growing up, he loved horses. He and his brother, Charles, were gifted a horse named Dolly by their parents. Together with their lifelong friends, they rode their horses in a beautiful pasture that also became their shared playground. This joy led him to join the rodeo team at Irving High School, where he successfully rode bareback.

His passion for music led him to pursue playing many instruments and subsequently performing in a bluegrass band called "Mountain Creek Express" for over 10 years. His expertise in playing the fiddle was highly acclaimed. Most of all, he was a talented singer with the gift of impersonating Elvis Presley, Willy Nelson, and Marty Robbins, which touched the hearts of all who heard him perform.

Brian met Laura Mamot while working in the same office building and they fell in love. They married on August 4,1990. They had two daughters, Lauren Ashley and Brittany Leigh. He was a loving father and amazing provider to his family, and especially enjoyed taking his family on memorable vacations every year. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and carpentry. Most notably, he built Ashley and Brittany a life size playhouse for them and their friends to enjoy.

His career took off in 1981 with the Dallas County Appraisal District, and within a few years shifted to him becoming an Ad Valorem Tax Consultant. He went back to college and graduated from his beloved Dallas Baptist University in 1997. Brian joined Marvin F. Poer and Company, and built a stellar career of achievement well over 25 years, and earned the honor of being in the Million Dollar Club for many years. He was recognized as one of the top revenue producers at the company. Many describe him as a consummate professional and was beloved and respected by his colleagues, clients and those he worked with at the appraisal districts.

He was looking forward to retiring in the coming months and spending time at his new lake house in East Texas, which he lovingly referred to as his "happy place" and "paradise." He was eager to host family and friends at the lake and build new memories. However, our Lord had other plans for him, his happy place and paradise being in Heaven with Jesus and his loving parents who he missed so much.

Brian is survived by Laura Mamot Cox, his daughters, Ashley Cox and her husband Nicolas Carroll, Brittany Cox Washle and her husband Scott Washle; his granddaughter, Camden Washle; his brother, Charles Cox; his nephew Christopher Cox; and his niece Rhonda Fruendt. He is predeceased by his parents, Donald and Ann Cox.

The memorial service will be held at Saint Andrew Methodist Church Hasley Chapel on Monday, December 18th at 2pm.

Donations in Brian's honor may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that he was passionate about, or to the American Heart Association.

Laura and family, we are all better for knowing Brian. He truly touched everyone he met with kindness, respect and thoughtfulness. Working with him for over 25 years was a privilege and he will always bring a smile to my heart when I think of him. We are incredibly saddened by his loss but know he is truly experiencing the wonder of absolute paradise and keeping a place for your family. May God bless you all in the days and months to come.
