Brian Grauman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 28, 2016.
Brian Christopher Grauman was born 30 April 1992 in Mountain View, California and died 18 November 2016 in San Jose, California. He leaves behind loving parents and an adoring sister. Brian "Chris" Grauman was an extremely intelligent and articulate man. He graduated from Prospect High School in Saratoga having enjoyed many activities including basketball, tennis, swimming, track and ROTC. He then achieved a Bachelor of Arts from UC Merced in three years while also serving as the Managing Editor of the campus newspaper, Chief Justice of the student body judicial branch, and was active with the pre-law society and the Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity. He was then selected as the Commencement Speaker for the UCM graduating class of 2013.

Brian then attended UC Hastings School of Law where he earned a Juris Doctorate in May 2016 and began preparations for the California Bar Exam. Brian loved studying and debating law, and was well on-track to fulfill his dream of being in the courtroom as a trial lawyer and eventually as a judge.

Brian excelled at life. He achieved everything he set his mind to do. Behind his playful challenges and mischievous grin, he was a very compassionate man. He had quickly absorbed a lifetime of knowledge in only 24 years and became literate in all that he did.

Brian was intense, impatient, and was very anxious to begin his professional life as a self-sufficient trial attorney. To him that represented financial independence and complete control of his own destiny. Unfortunately that dream ended after one major setback on 18 November. Brian made friends easily and there are hundreds of them who, like his family, must now face life without him.

In undergrad I think it's safe to say that you were one of my role models, whether I knew it or not. You were well spoken, strong writer, sociable, friendly, etc. I already wrote a long post on your Facebook as a tribute to you. I don't want to overdo this. I'm still in disbelief. Even as your acquaintance my heart physically aches and it brings me sadness. Each new wave of realization is pain. I think that must mean that you were a special person. This is not about me, but I would like to share that I will never forget you and could never forget you. You remain a role model for me for the hard work and passion that I saw in undergrad. Most of all, you were kindhearted, and I deeply care for that quality in you. Rest in peace

Dear Kathi, Rick and Aubrey,
Please know that you are all in our hearts and prayers during this terrible loss and sadness that you are going through. May you be surrounded by people who will love and comfort you as you grieve and may memories of Brian's comfort you. I wish that I could be there for the service. Many hugs to you all. The photos that I saw of you in the Grand Canyon reminded me think of one that I took about about 6 years ago there. Our sincere condolences.

Chris, as we knew him, was in a number of classes with me at Hastings and I will always remember him as being the perfect gentleman. Not only did Chris regularly display his intelligence and penchant for hard work, he was also polite, thoughtful, and respectful to every person he met.

It is worth noting that in our small seminar last spring our class frequently discussed issues that often stir up passions in even the most well mannered of people. Chris was always respectful of the views expressed by other students, even when others expressed their disagreement. He set an example for each of us in terms of respect and deference towards one another and I consider myself fortunate to have known him. That he was known to so many for his kindness and strength of character is a testament to your family.

Thank you for the opportunity you gave us to know Chris. We owe you a debt of gratitude for his life and I can't help but feel the world is a lesser place without him.

We cannot adequately convey our sympathy at this very difficult time, but please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Our son was in Brian's section at Hastings and spoke highly of your son. Again, our sincere condolences.
