Brian Hanson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 22, 2024.
Brian T. Hanson, 55, of Valrico, FL, formerly of Pepperell, MA passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 21, 2024.

Born July 24, 1968, in Concord MA, he was the beloved son of Richard and Sandra Hanson of Valrico, FL and brother to William and wife Stacy of Palm Bay, Florida, and his brother Dana Hanson of Pepperell, MA. He also had nephews Justin and Nicholas, both of whom he was very proud. His family meant the world to him.

Brian moved to Pepperell in 1975 with his family. He quickly made friends in school and the community as a result of his charm, humor, fearlessness and outgoing nature. He was athletic and excelled at sports including baseball, karate, archery and most notably was the Goal Keeper for Pepperell's first organized soccer team.

At the age of 13, Brian suffered a tragic accident at his home which he lost his left eye. Although it was a traumatic event for he and his family, he never let it define him or allowed anyone to feel sorry for him. He instead faced any challenge with an incredible strength and courage.

Over the years, he made a close circle of friends, and made many happy memories. He always encouraged others and stood up for what was right. He was an honest and loyal friend and made lifetime friendships including his best friend Kevin Scott, who he met as a child and never left his side.

In his early adult years, he worked as an electrical apprentice. He later made the decision to get into the "family business" and follow in his grandfather's and father's footsteps as a Correctional Officer at MCI Concord. He retired after his years of service were completed and attended the Atlantic Culinary Academy in Dover, NH where he decided to pursue a second career with his love for cooking.

Cooking for others brought him a great joy. In fact, he and his friend Kevin took part in the local annual "chili cook-off" contest for several years which benefitted an Autism charity and twice won First Place. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and had a love of the outdoors and a love for animals, especially dogs.

Later in life, he made one more selfless decision, it was one of the most noble but an easy choice for Brian, which was to move to Florida to care for his aging parents, Richard and Sandra. He was determined to care for them full time and his compassion along with the joy and comfort he brought to the entire family will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Lung Association, to honor his mother, who continues her valiant struggle with COPD. They can be sent in memoriam, online to: www.lung.org

A celebration of life to honor and remember Brian will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 3-6pm at the Dam Grille on 142 Main Street in Pepperell, MA 01463.

May his kindness, selflessness and courage be remembered forever.

I worked with Dick, Billy and Brian. To hear of Brian's early passing broke my heart. I'm sorry for all of you. Brian stopped by my house several years back when he had a delivery job, and we had a short but great visit. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Brian Daley

My sincere condolences to the family. Brian was such a special person. I remember we were at a function at the Pepperell K of C, a song came on and he slid on his knees all the way down the dance floor to the crowd, then popped up and started dancing with everyone. It was quite an entrance!
