Brian McIntyre Obituary

Published by Victoria Times Colonist from Sep. 12 to Sep. 14, 2015.
McINTYRE, Brian Thomas We are heartbroken to announce Brian's sudden passing on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the age of 68. He was known as "Mac" or "Junior" to his many close friends and colleagues. Brian was born in Victoria to Howard and Martha McIntyre. He is survived by his wife Lynne of forty-five years. He will be sorely missed by his son Grant, daughter-in-law Shelly, grandchildren Ella and Grady and his son Adam and partner Erin. Also left to mourn his passing is his brother Daryl, sister-in-law Lorna, his niece Brandy and her family. Growing up he enjoyed special times with his extended family on the lower mainland. He was active in sports his entire life and was a long time member of the Esquimalt Oldies. Brian spent his total teaching career with the Greater Victoria School District beginning at Cedar Hill Junior Secondary and finishing at Colquitz Middle School. He formed many lifelong friendships throughout his working life. He enjoyed eight wonderful years of retirement, travelling, playing golf, watching hockey and spending time with his buddies. He was a wonderful husband, a devoted father and a much loved grampa. Grampa was one of Ella's favourite playmates. He treasured the time he spent with his family and he will live on forever in our memories. A Celebration of Life is planned for Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the Saanich Fairgrounds, 1528 Stellys Cross Road at 1:30 p.m.

Lynn and family;

My condolences. I grew up with Brian in "Shacktown". We were close friends all through out junior and senior high. We each took different paths after high school and we never connected again. That will be one of my greatest regrets.

Great loss.Had him as a teacher at Cedar Hill in the 80's. We take people like him for granted and only remember how important they are later in life. Helps to make us the people we are today and little did we know that he would help us later in life to guide our own children. The depth of a great person should add life to those he leaves behind. Very sure he did that. My condolences and prayers to all his family and friends.Everyone take a lap for BIG MAC!!!

I remember him well from Cedar Hill 1975-77. For us "not too tall" guys Big Mac was a gentle giant. The patience and understanding required by Junior High School teachers reserves them a special peaceful place in the here after.

Mr. Mcintyre - he is a man who my friends and I always remember. As a teacher, he was friendly and encouraging. It was on the basketball floor that Mr. McIntyre influenced us the most. He was ahead of his time and would today be called a "player's coach". Coach Mac was so positive and took joy in the game - something that has echoed and carried through my own life. It was under Mac's coaching that I met my two best friends in the world. The three of us always swap great stories of our basketball seasons with Coach Mac.
I know he would be happy to know that he brought us three life-long friends together. In the time since he was our coach and teacher, we have all become teachers, and fathers. We coach - oh how we coach - and give back like Mac taught us. Always positive, and looking at the good in the youth that we have the privilege to work with. Mr. McIntyre , was a mentor that affected our entire lives. Thank you Mr. Mcintyre.

I am so sorry to hear of Brian's passing. I knew Mr. Mac as both a teacher and a family friend. There was a deep and special bond among many of the teachers at Cedar Hill Jr. Secondary for many years. I was so fortunate to be able to witness it and even share in it a tiny bit (I still have such fond memories of me sitting at the piano, Brian playing the guitar sort of :) and us pounding out some tunes at my folks' house at the occasional gathering at the Crawfords'). And when my father passed away, Brian was so kind to my mother, year after year. Thank you, Brian.
Our deepest condolences to Lynne, the kids and grandkids. Please know how much he was appreciated and loved by the people whose lives he touched. (I'm sure you already do.)
