OSTERVILLE - Brian D. Melanson, age 48, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007.

Born in Quincy, he grew up in Weymouth. He was a graduate of Weymouth High School and Wentworth Institute of Technology.

A Marine Corps Reserves veteran, he was a former ships electrician for General Dynamics at the Quincy Shipyard and recently worked as a self-employed electrician.

Brian loved all aspects of the ocean and marine life. He enjoyed boating, fishing and diving.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy (Brundle) Sturgeon and stepfather, Robert Sturgeon of Auburndale, Fla. He was the father of Jennifer and Jonathan Melanson of Plymouth; longtime companion of Christine Henry of Osterville; brother of Diane Salame of Marshfield, Linda Melanson of Brockton, and James Melanson of Wintergarden, Fla. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews, and a friend of Bill W.

A funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Ave., in Osterville on Friday at 10 a.m. Visiting hours are in the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28), Marstons Mills on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brian Melanson Memorial Fund, c/o Bank of America, 181 Court St., Plymouth, MA 02360.
