Brian Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 17, 2024.
Brian Anthony Smith was born on June 16, 1962 at Freedman's Hospital in Washington, DC. Brian was the third of four children born to Truman Burts Smith and Lilla Alberta Marshall Smith. Brian gave his life to Christ at an early age and became a member of Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC. Though reluctant, Brian participated in the Youth Choir and Voices of Tomorrow choirs. Throughout the years Brian attended services at Victory Christian Ministries International in Suitland, MD and returned often to Sargent for Sunday service.

Brian was an active child who enjoyed sports; participating in many recreational programs to support his athletic interests. Brian participated in the Boy Scouts program and took cello lessons as a part of the DC Youth Orchestra program at Calvin Coolidge HS in Washington, DC. Brian also enjoyed bicycling, playing chess, and watching his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Brian began his early education at Nannie Helen Burroughs and kindergarten at Dupont Park Seventh-Day Adventist Schools Washington, DC. Following the family's move to Suitland, Maryland in 1968, Brian attended, Edgar Allen Poe Elementary School, Woodley Knoll Elementary School, and in 1973 as a part of the countywide integration program, the Smith children were bused to Temple Hills Elementary School. Brian went on to attend Suitland Junior High School and later attended Saint Anthony Catholic High School to play basketball. Brian returned to Suitland Senior High School where he graduated in 1980. After high school, Brian spent one year at Prince George's Community College in Largo, MD but sought a technical education at Lincoln Tech where he completed his training in the Heating and Air Conditioning Program.

In 1986, Brian married Kim Renee Madison and from that union two sons were born. Many years later, Brian met Amy Chiyoko Kobayashi, with whom he shared a life and son until her untimely passing in July 2023.

Brian worked a series of jobs over the years until suffering a debilitating back injury. Brian enrolled in the Prince George's Community College Workforce Development Program and obtained his certification in the Commercial Driver License Program.

Having lived most of his life with one kidney following a childhood accident, Brian went on to his heavenly rest on November 1, 2023. Preceded in death by his Father Truman Burts Smith and his beloved nephew, Jordan Christian Baber. Left to mourn Brian's passing: Brian's devoted Mother Lilla, two sisters, Joan Smith and Tonya Baber, sons, Andrew, D'Angelo, and Jasper, Brother-in-Law Terence Baber, Kim Smith, Cousins Harold Watkins, Jr. (Claudia), Andrew Marshall, Jr., Anita Marshall, Gwenette Marshall, Lonnie Griffin, Wanda Lykes, Reverend Perry Griffin, Orenthal Butler, and Tadausha Butler along with a host of other dear relatives and friends.
