So sorry; I am very late in hearing this awful news- these days I live near Philadelphia & tend to get "out of the loop." I, too, was a 1984 grad of UW-LaCrosse and a track teammate of "Vandy." Even though I was a nutty distance runner and Brian did "all the jumps," we new each other quite well- it was the LACROSSE WAY to love & respect your teammates, and that´s why we WON all the time!! . It looks to me that Vandy did many amazing things after UW-L; that´s not a surprise & I know all who knew him were blessed to have done so. R.I.P. Brian! -Peter Dodd, Hanover PA.

I spent seven days with Brian riding 468 miles across Iowa in July 2015 (RAGBRAI). We slept in tents, met lots of great people and had a blast, I will never forget that trip!! I also worked with Brian at Allscripts for 6+ years. Brian was a great guy and he will be missed. My condolences to the family.

Brian and I overlapped at the AMA for only a brief - but impactful time. I remember a conversation about the potential opportunities for those of us who focus on health equity to make it count- and didn´t realize how large his imprint was as a mentor until I would mention his name and each time someone would say- here´s what Brian did to change my professional life...give me a chance to....how he supports his team, medical students... and on and on. His influence on those of us lucky to have met him will long endure in his many legacy projects. Sending my deepest condolences to all who loved Brian.

While I had not had the pleasure to meet Brian, the stories I have heard of his kind heart and work ethic are much beyond anything I have ever witnessed. I am sure he was a man of honor and he will be truly missed. My condolences to all experiencing this heavy loss.

Brian was one of the people I've met along the way that I always wanted to spend more time with. He was magnetic. I remember him first from our time serving on the Lake Forest High School Booster Club Board. In that experience, he was the brightest light in a room filled with bright lights. He was reasonable, inspirational, personable, creative, and incredibly fun to be around. And he got things done.
After Boosters, our relationship morphed into intermittent lunches and chance meetings in town. When we would reconnect, Brian was always so engaging and gracious. I left those meetings wanting more of him. But he was an incredibly popular person and, as such, his time was dear. Despite that, Brian was one of those rare people who could be completely "with you" when he was. One of his many wonderful qualities.
When Brian and Jamie moved away from Lake Forest, first to Chicago and then to Wyoming, I remember feeling like we'd really lost something here in Lake Forest. And now I'm feeling the lost more acutely. I will genuinely miss Brian. And I will genuinely remember Brian with fondness that goes well beyond the time I was able to spend with him.

I am saddened to hear of Brian's passing. My heart goes out to the entire Vandenberg family and all of his many friends. My memories of "Boogie" are of him being a very giving individual. He took the time out of his very busy/active highschool life to make shirts for a group of us distance runners to go to our first marathon in Milwaukee. He was always doing things for others. RIP to a great teammate and human being!

My heart is broken for all of the Vandenberg family members. The abilities that came so easily to Brian were a reflection of how Lyle & Kay raised & nurtured him & his sisters. A family who loved each other unconditionally & respected
each other & all those who they met in life were only some of Brian's many attributes. His love of Jamie & their family were obvious to those who had the opportunity to see or talk to him on a daily basis.
Brian made a difference in our world. His commitment & longing to make each day the best it could be for everyone will be tremendously missed by all who knew him & especially those who loved him.
May he rest in peace.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Brian. I had the privilege of working with him, and in that time, I was truly touched by his kindness, patience, and the way he always listened with understanding. He had a remarkable ability to make those around him feel valued, and his leadership was defined not just by wisdom, but by the genuine care he showed for others.
His impact on our organization and on those who worked with him will never be forgotten. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May his legacy of compassion and integrity continue to inspire us all.
With deepest condolences,
Jamie

Deepest sympathies to the Vandenberg family. I had the honor of working with Brian at AMA; he was a respectful, compassionate person with a brilliant mind who always took time to chat about OU Bobcats (my alma mater). What a beautiful legacy he has left for his family.
