Brianna Kaufman-Defreese Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 13, 2025.
Brianna Jean Kaufman-Defreese passed away too soon on January 8, 2025 in Oakland, New Jersey. She leaves her husband Pete Defreese, her stepsons Pete Jr.(aka Bugz) and Damian, her father, Brian Kaufman (Priscilla), brothers Nicky Grasso, Mikey Grasso and Dan Wang (Jen) and sister, Hannah Kaufman (Sanji). She was predeceased by her loving Mother, Nancy Grasso (Michael) and her children Ava and Ryder, and we know she would smile at the thought of seeing her mother and children again in heaven.

Brianna was born at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey on July 7, 1987 and grew up in Pompton Lakes and Oakland, New Jersey where she graduated from Oakland Highschool in 2006. An early interest in healthcare eventually led to a career in home health. She worked as a Branch Lead at Sunshine Home Health Services and then at Broadway Respite and Home Care LLC as an Operations Specialist. Brianna loved her job and worked hard, long after she became ill. In the end, when asked if there was anything she really wanted, she said she just wanted to go back to the office and work.

Brianna married Pete Defreese on January 26, 2016 and they settled in Oakland, New Jersey before moving to Highland Lakes with their beloved dogs, Felon, Thor and Dolce. They shared a love of the outdoors and spent many days fishing, enjoying the sunshine and cooking together. Her husband's parents Padie and Debbie Defreese, and the whole Defreese family, dearly loved Brianna.

We would like to thank the Valley Hospital Cancer Center for the support they gave Brianna and her family, including Dr. Ephriam Casper, Nurse Judy at the Infusion Center, Michelle Certosimo, Dr. Ayelet Spitzer, and the Valley Hospice Team, including Nurse Klaudia. A special thanks also goes to her brother Mikey Grasso, who was always there to support her and assure her needs were met, and to her Aunt, Marla Akin, who opened up her home and heart to Brianna. Marla assured Brianna received excellent care and Marla's love of life never failed to bring a smile to Brianna's face.

Brianna had a big heart and a great sense of humor. We will all miss her.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Brianna I don´t know where to start. We have know one another almost our whole lives being our moms we´re best friends. You were like a little sister to me & you had referred me as a big sister which made me so happy since I always wanted a sister. You lived such an amazing life & were loved by so many. Your memory will certainly live on forever in those who lives you so much. I know I certainly miss you more than you know. I hope you are with mom, Ava & Ryder watching down on everyone. I have so many memories I can´t pick one. I do remember when our mom´s would go bowling every week I would stay at the house with you, Mikey & Nicky amd you would like to cook dinner for me & you were an amazing cool. We did things to drive our mothers nuts & thought it was hilarious. You were the younger sister I never had & always will be family. I love you & will miss you more than you know. Rest in peace beautiful angel

Love Always
Kara

Brie was such a kind, caring and loving person. I have a million and one memories. My most favorite is when my youngest went to visit family and she made Pete clean the basement bedroom for him and then she made it like a little hotel getaway. I´ll miss everything about our friendship. Texts, calls and especially "porch time." Fly high Brie Bear. Say hi to your mom and love on those babies for me.
Love you forever,
Shae Bear
