BUCHANAN, Briggs W. Jr. Briggs Wheeler Buchanan, Jr., age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 16, 2021. Briggs was lovingly known as "Boompa" by his six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Boompa was formerly a longtime resident of Newton, MA and Gilmanton Iron Works, NH. Briggs, Jr. was born to Briggs and Florence in 1937 in Morristown, New Jersey. After living in New York City and Vermont, he moved with his family to Guilford, CT. Briggs attended high school in Guilford where he met his future wife, Susan Whitehead. He was a graduate of University of New Hampshire, and in 1961, Briggs and Susan were married in Lucerne, Switzerland. Briggs worked his entire career with Shawmut Bank in Boston, MA where he was Vice President of Institutional Investments. Briggs was actively involved with NWW in supporting Juniper House, a local charitable organization supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He loved nature, reading, summers by the lake with family and friends. Briggs, Jr. was predeceased by his wife Susan Buchanan. He is survived by his brother David, of Salem, OR. Three sons, Scott and Brenda Buchanan, of Norwell, MA, Peter Buchanan, of Braintree, MA, Briggs, III and Susan Buchanan, of Tulsa, OK. Six grandchildren Samantha Bauer, of Norwell, MA, Kayla Buchanan-Craig, of Framingham, MA, Madeline Haywood, of St. Andrews, Scotland, Stephen Buchanan, of Norwell, MA, Briggs Buchanan, IV and Delian Buchanan, of Tulsa, OK. Two great-grandchildren Miles Wheeler Craig and Taron Briggs Craig. Special mention to Gabriel, Susannah, and Nicholas Tesoriero and all considered "extended family." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, alz.org The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia.

Very sad to hear about Briggs. I worked with him at Shawmut for many years. He was a wonderful boss and such a warm and caring person. My sympathy to his entire family.

My sincere sympathy & prayers to the Buchanan family. I made several visits with Kathleen Tesoriero to Busy Lodge in NH to visit Briggs.
