Briggs Cook, Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 3, 2016.
Briggs Edward Cook, Sr., passed away on November 1, 2016 at Beacon Place in Greensboro, N.C., following a battle with brain cancer. Without suffering, his life ended as he had lived it- quietly, with dignity, and surrounded by those that loved and cared for him.

Known for a constant smile and laugh, Briggs' passion was service for others. This passion, and this service, was reflected both personally and professionally. As a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin, grandfather, friend and mentor- he was a constant and reliable presence. To challenges he responded generously, in disappointment he saw opportunity to improve. His work ethic equally reflected this quality. Briggs was a pharmacist in his hometown for 48 years. Beginning as a Navy corpsman, he graduated from Pharmacy School at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill in 1963. He remained a pharmacist for the rest of his life, helping thousands of customers until his retirement in 2014. Each customer, and their family, was special to him.

Where few truly find their lifelong calling and community, he did. Briggs loved the outdoors, and traveled abroad to dozens of countries. At home, he golfed, fished and worked in his yard and garden. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Helen, his sons, grandchildren, sister, brother and extended family.

A memorial service will be held for Briggs at Westover Church, 505 Muirs Chapel Rd, in Greensboro on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 2pm in the Atrium Hall. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) or the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke. Online condolences may be made at www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com. Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel is assisting the Cook family.

Mr. Cook as I knew him, was kind to my mother and I during our time in Greensboro. He was my neighborhood pharamist and Mrs Cook's husband; Briggs and David's dad. I'm so sorry. My thoughts are with the family.
