Britta Alexander Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 28 to Sep. 30, 2011.
Britta Renee Alexander (Mendoza) Resident of Pleasanton Aug. 10, 1973 - Sept. 25, 2011 Danced into San Francisco on a Midsummer Night's Dream in 1973 and sparked an endless trail of love and laughter for 38 years. Her inviting humor, infectious smile and selfless devotion impacted the lives of anyone fortunate enough to know her. Britta's spirit lit up the San Francisco Ballet stage as a young cast member in "Nutcracker" and shined even brighter through her lifelong calling - the care and comfort she provided for thousands of animals as a veterinarian. She enjoyed romantic destinations and novels; while at heart, an island girl. Her generous and giving nature was reflected in her fostering of animals, baking of cupcakes and eternal willingness to make others happy. She graduated from Discovery Center School (K-8) in San Francisco, Westmoor High School in Daly City, and attended the University of California Davis, receiving an undergraduate degree in Biology with an emphasis in Physiology. After a summer in Kenya studying wildlife behavior, she attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, West Indies and spent her clinical year at Colorado State Veterinary School of Medicine - earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). After graduation in 2005, she joined VetCare in Dublin as an emergency clinician with a team of extraordinary colleagues and friends. Britta is survived by a loving family, including husband Joe and his kids Brooke, Christian, and Gracey; mother Cheryl and father Jesus Mendoza in Daly City, brother Nick Mendoza in Santa Monica, brother Rick (Pam) Mendoza in New Jersey, brother Mike (Petra) Mendoza in Germany and sister Anita (Tui) Nua in Seattle; many close uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews; unbreakable friendships spanning decades; plus Colin, the dog she adopted while studying in the Caribbean, and three kitties: Nina, Belle and Gaston. Family, friends and anyone who dances passionately to the rhythm of life are encouraged to donate to the Peninsula Humane Society (www.peninsulahumanesociety.org) or an animal charity of your choice; and consider adopting animals from shelters or rescue groups. A bright star, Britta's spark continues in our hearts forever.

To the Mendoza family, you have my deepest condolences. I met Britta many years ago and could see immediately what a warm, loving and beautiful person she was. I am very blessed to have known her. I will hold a place for her in my heart to get me through. Her presence in flesh will be missed but her gifts in spirit will live on.

Dick, Cheryl, and Nick,

I am so saddened by the loss of Britta and send my deepest condolences. Growing up and spending all those summers (and Saturdays) at your house, you guys are family and Britta was like a big sister to me. She will always be a huge part of my childhood memories, which were some of the most fun and care free times. It always brings a smile to my face to think back to those days. My thoughts are with you guys.

I have known you since you were a very young lady, 14, 15 not sure which. I have always loved your constant smile, kind and gentle ways and soft spoke voice. You have been in my a family's live all of these years, even my mother and father. Thank you for being a part of our lives and I will think of you often. You are missed. Love you honey.

I will always remember her amazing smile & loud laugh! Fresh out of highschool and she was so full of ideas, better said full of life and thoughts of what she wanted to do with it!I can only imagine all those in Heavan that are enjoying her bright eyed ways!

Uncle Dick & Aunt Cheryl, I am so sorry for your loss. The last time I saw Britta was at my Dad's funeral in 1997, and I had just reconnected with her via Facebook a few months ago. Although I didn't have much contact with her as an adult, I remember her when we were kids as energetic and always laughing. Rest in peace, my cousin Britta.

When I was a new and very green vet tech at VetCare, Britta and Bobby went on a trip to Europe. I remember her excitement as the trip approached, and I was amazed at her generosity when she returned from France with gifts for all of us - I felt so special to be included since I was brand new and only worked part time, but that's just how Britta was. She always thought of everyone around her. I will never forget the example she set.

I met Britta in a chemistry class and she offered to find out about a job position for me as a kennel assistant/vet assistant where she was working at the time as a technician. That was my first real job in the veterinary field and also where I met my now husband. She literally changed my life and I will be forever grateful.

Words can't even explain what I feel right now. Britta was my childhood friend. I use to do almost everything with her family when we were younger. We did not keep in touch during our adult life and not until times like this do you realize how short life is. Mr. & Mrs. Mendoza & Nick, my condolences and deepest sympathy.
Rest in Peace Britta. May you shine bright in the Heavens.

Mrs. Mendoza & Mr. Mendoza and Nick, with all me deepest condolences to you. I wished we would have kept in touch in our adult years and not until times like this do you realize that life is too short. Rest in Peace Britta.

Even though we were never as close in adulthood as I wish we could have been, I will always remember how much I wanted to be exactly like you: graceful, soft spoken, hard working and magnetic. I am so lucky to get to call you my Godsister. I grieve for the loss Uncle Dickie and Aunt Cheryl, Nick, and the rest of your family and friends will always feel, and hope to find you on the best, brightest stage when I meet you in heaven.
