Bruce Bentson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 31, 2025.
Bruce Elliot Bentson, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, in Bonney Lake, Washington.

Bruce was born on January 25, 1944, in Lake County, South Dakota, to Billy and Doris Bentson. During World War II, while his father served in the U.S. Army, Bruce and his mother relocated to Washington to be closer to family. He was raised in Auburn, where he attended school from kindergarten through 12th grade and graduated from Auburn High School. A talented athlete, Bruce excelled in football and baseball throughout his school years.

He continued his education at the University of Washington, earning a degree in business. Bruce began his professional career as a CPA with Ernst & Ernst, later working with Quadrant Custom Homes and Spartus Corporation. He ultimately retired as an auditor with the State of Washington, where he was known for his thoroughness and professionalism.

Bruce had a deep passion for golf-though he often joked it was a love/hate relationship. He was a devoted fan of UW Husky football, an avid NASCAR enthusiast, and found his greatest joy in time spent with his family and lifelong friends.

He is survived by his three sons: Patrick, Kevin (Jennifer), and Phillip; four grandchildren: Parker, Sarah, Alex (Jordan), and Emily (Matt); and three great-grandchildren: Cohen, Hayes, and Ava. He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Doris Bentson.

Bruce will be remembered for his quiet strength, wit, and enduring love for those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

As longtime friend Denny Howard shared, "One of the best people I have ever known."
