Dear Patty and Tara: Although I am late in sending my condolences your way, they are most sincere. I have thought of your husband and dad often over the past year. He was a dear friend many years ago when I needed one. We worked in the same building in Hull. We often had some good laughs over coffee together. He was a great gabbber mostly about hockey - surprise surprise. That was fine with me. When my son, Jeff Smith, played for the Nepean Junior Raiders, Bruce was the General Manager. He worked avidly for many young adults to promote them. He succeeded in assisting many in obtaining hockey scholarships or financial aid packages. He recognised athletic talent. He was supportive in many ways to many in the local hockey scene - probably more than any of us know.
The last time I met Bruce he was with his beloved Tara and her friend at the Sunday movies at the AMC theatre in Kanata. I am so happy I got to see him that day. He just beamed as he introduced you, Tara. You were obviously Dad's pride and joy. I am so happy Bruce had several years of happy family life with both of you before his much-too-soon departuure from this world. Take care. I will continue to think of you. Sincerely, Paula Purcell

This was posted by John in Halifax:
"Because of a national program through Public Works, I came to know Bruce. Bruce was a colleague, but more importantly a friend, who was well respected by those he helped in Atlantic Canada."
I can say the same thing from the west coast.
When I first started working with Bruce, I immediately identified him as one that truely wanted to help out. Initially I got to know him as a name on an email, then a voice on the national conference call, and finally got to meet him in person last spring. I was always impressed at the assistance we got from Bruce.
You'll be missed.

Can't stop thinking of Bruce. Very difficult to accept that he is no longer out there stirring it up. It was always a joy to be with him no matter what the event or occasion. Especially fun to recall the happenings of the previous day(s)...remembering the crazy stuff that Bruce always brought! I am very proud to see what a wonderful life Bruce has had and the huge number of relationships he has made since we were last out there really 'stirring it up'. As with all others...I am very happy and proud to have known him!! He is missed greatly.

I met Bruce through a mutual friend Steve Mcmurtry. We all lived in the same area at the time and played summer hockey together for 5 years at the Sportplex. We often ended up at the local pub Ruby Tuesdays near where we lived.I remember one friday night going to the Bob over in Hull to watch a junior game. The Piques were playing Verdun that night and Bruce really wanted to see his favorite player Claude Lemieux,i had a good laugh that night listening to those two cursing him the whole game.Good times and good memories.Again sincere condolences to Bruce's familiy and friends.

my cousin Brucy as I always called you. And you always asked by name how my children were and what were they doing. You always remembered in great detail what they were doing or had accomplished. Working with you as a team of three with john and you for the adm and dm was incredible fun. You always made me smile when you would say.."kirkby..after this..we are friends for life". I have never met anyone who cared for people and had your people skills. You could roll with anything and make all happy and feeling like they were the champion of the team you built and managed.
Stan and I both yesterday when we learnt the news, collapsed and had to go for a long walk reflecting on our "cousin brucy". My wife was devastated last night when in tears i told her what had happened. Last winter when coaching a boys soccer team at cantan university the sports coaches there spoke about you and had many good stories to tell me. Your recommendation that i spend the night in the old hotel by the rapids was as you would say"an adventure". Your memories will live for ever with many and more friends then I know is possible to describe.
Miss you Bruce!

Patty, Tara and family,
My husband and I met Bruce thru our dear friends The Nickerson's probably 5-6 years ago. The first time I started to chat with Bruce I thought what a kind person he was, always intrigued by what I had to say and genuinely a kind, wonderful person to spend time with. Its easy to see from all of the entries in this guest book that he touched so many lives in the same positive way. Bob and I will certainly miss seeing his smiling face at The Pontiac Station and throughout the streets of Kanata.
Losing a loved one is a difficult time and someone once told me when this happens in our lives, it is like time stands still. We don't know how to move forward with our lives without that person. I found this excerpt recently and thought it would help Patty, Tara and family members. Love to you all.
Bob, Cathy & Michael Haughian
** What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

My deepest sympathy. I had the privilege of working with Bruce and I have never known a more caring individual. Please stay strong in this time of sorrow.
What makes the wind blow? Our loved ones blowing us a kiss.
What makes the stars shine? Our loved ones keeping watch over us while we sleep.
What makes the skies cry? Our loved ones missing us.
What makes the sun shine? Our loved ones giving us a warm hug.
What makes the ocean waves come pounding to shore? Our loved ones wanting to touch us once more.
Natures wonders - why? Making sure we always remember the loved one we’ve lost and shall never forget.

To the Bullard Family,
Bruce was a great friend at Plattsburgh and although it has been years since we were students, his passing floods our minds with nothing but great memories of him and of all the fun times we shared. It is hard not to think of Bruce without smiling. What a tribute to his life. I pray for him and for all of you, but especially for his daughter. My sincere condolences.

Dear Patty and Tara,
As you know, I was Tara's Kindergarten teacher for 2 years and your family has always held a special place in my heart. I am still in shock and don't want to believe such a tragedy could happen to such a great guy and loving family. I have so many memories of Bruce and Tara together ... in my classroom, or picking her up after school, or knocking on my classroom window when they saw me working there on the weekend. Bruce would always keep us (Mrs. Brennan & I) up to date on things Tara was doing both in and outside school. In Kindergarten, he would tell us about how she played teacher and he had to be her student sitting crossed-legged on the floor while she re-enacted her daily lessons. :) He was the most loving and proud father I ever met! Bruce always greeted you with a smile and friendly hello (or in my case "Bonjour Madame"). He always offered words of praise and maintained a positive attitude towards teachers and Holy Redeemer School in general. I appreciated those words so-o much!
Patty --- you and Tara are in my prayers. My heart is breaking for you both. Hold onto those wonderful memories to get you through the coming years. I know I will never forget such a special person as Bruce! God bless.
Sincerely,
Chris Blahout (or as Bruce always called me > Mme. Blahout)

To Patty, Tara and the entire Bullard family. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Bruce was such a great guy, and it is not surprising to read page after page of loving tributes to him and his memory. I am very grateful to Steve "Mertz" McMurtry for bringing Bruce into our group of RCMP friends. As a result, we all have a lot of great memories from back in the day. Although I have a heavy heart and tears in my eyes, just thinking of Bruce brings a smile to my face. Bruce had that affect on people. He will be truly missed! My heart goes out to you all, and I hope you find comfort in knowing that Bruce left a huge mark on everyone he met. Brenda

To the Bullard Family.
Bruce was a colleague of mine at PWGSC. What I remember most was his kindest. He always wanted to help me when I was moving boxes and insisted on lifting them. One day after a particulary stressful morning, I was having lunch in a quiet place. Bruce approached me and told me he did not want me to eat lunch alone and that I could join him. Tara was the light of his life and he never stopped talking about her. A more devoted Father you will never find.

I have just been informed of the sudden lost of Bruce. I am very sad to hear of this as Bruce was a great Person, thou I never met him only through phone calls and e-mails he always made me laugh and made Accessibility fun. I learned a lot from Bruce and Garry when it came to Accessibility and to feel a part of the accessibility team I guess I became a Accessible Monster with the data base. Remembering all the brain storming, testing, Bruce gave you room to be a part of the team and listen to your ideas and believed in the team and for that I thank Bruce, as he was a great Mentor for me. Bruce will always be in my heart.

Tara,
I have been sitting here trying to put into words what your father, my brother meant to me, the tears just keep coming down my face, I can't believe I will never see that smile again, he would walk into to a room and it would light up, he was amazing and whenever I needed him, he was there no questions asked. You were his life Tara, he was a great father and a terrific uncle, he always had advice about hockey for all your cousins, he tried to help them out from the time they put skates on.
Always remember that you are in his heart forever, and a day won't go by that I won't think about how special he was, he will be in my heart forever and ever. xoxoxoxo

You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

My sincere heart felt sympathies. I just can't believe he is gone. I can only echo the comments made about Bruce from the other notes. Bruce was my coffee partner at work for the last few years. When I would talk about my girls he would always laugh and say he was taking notes so he would know how to handle the same problems in the future. He was a dedicated dad for sure and it showed in our conversations. I will miss him, his laugh, our Friday morning assessments of our Thursday hockey games and our discussions about our kids.

Dear Patty, Tara and family,
Please accept our heartfelt sympathies. We were shocked and saddened to lose a good friend. Bruce will always be remembered by his kindness and the way he was able to put a smile on your face with his good humour, stories, and enthusiasm. Children adored him and he always found time for them; weather it was coaching our children’s soccer, or volunteering in their class at school. It was a privilege to know Bruce. He left an imprint on so many hearts that his spirit will live on..... in all of us.

I worked with Bruce at Public Works and chatted with him every day. One of the few people who called me Nick. I was very fond of him. He was a truly nice man - very caring and kind. I will miss him very much. Bruce - say hi to my son for me!

I was and am so sorry to hear about Bruce. I had the chance to play hockey with Bruce for a couple of years at the RA Centre in the 90's. He was a very good hockey player and an even better guy to be around. I was very sad to hear the news the other day. My thoughts and condolences to all of you.

Our sympathy to all the Bullard family.
It was Bruce's reputation. as a coach, general manager, mentor, gentleman, and perhaps most importantly, a compassionate and caring man that helped build and foster the game of hockey in Ottawa. In later years after Bruce had taken a step back from actively participating in the CJHL he still kept in touch with many of his friends he made along the way. We would often gather over a coffee at the Hazeldean Mall and talk about the good old days when he was at the helm as coach and general manager of the Ottawa Jr "A" Senators. We respected him and will remember Bruce when ever we are talking hockey.

Dear Patty, Tara and the Bullard Family,
I was devastated to hear of Bruce's untimely passing. I have known Bruce for 29years and during that time had gotten to know and appreciated his kindness, humour and intelligence. I believe it has been a privilege to call him not only a patient but a friend. Tara I have watched you grow as your father never came to a dental appointment without new pictures of you or little gifts you would pass along to me. I have a little fairy, a picture and a pony that you sent along and that your father gave to me with pride. Your father was devoted to you and that more than anything else truly spoke to me of the measure of his humanity. I will miss him, my whole office will miss him, he would light up our day when he showed up. The world has lost a very gentle and honourable human being.
I wish you all well and hope that you all take comfort in the fact that while he wasn't with us for long he left 3 lifetimes full of memories and laughter.
