Bruce Carmichiel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 6 to Jan. 9, 2013.
Carmichiel, Bruce Gene Age 75, of Excelsior died January 4, 2013. Bruce was an Excelsior businessman, and was the 2nd generation family member to operate Carmichiel Auto Parts. As a recycler of car parts and cars, he often conducted business with a handshake - the old fashioned way. His word was considered gold. Bruce graduated from Wayzata High School. With his wife Julie, he raised Arla and Todd. In 1969 the young family moved to Excelsior next door to the auto parts yard. Sports of all sorts (especially softball, bowling, raquetball and broomball) more than kept Bruce (and the family) busy after hours. He was a crack cribbage and poker player, taking on all comers. Bruce is preceded in death by loving wife, Julie, parents, Stan and Dorothy Carmichiel, step-brother, Robert Carmichiel and step-sister, Joanne Carmichiel; and father-in-law, Adrian Seck. Bruce is survived by children, Arla (Steve Kelley), Todd (Sherri) Carmichiel; and three grandsons, Jon, Tommy and Joey; also brother, Jim (Janet) Carmichiel; sisters, Carol Carmichiel, Shari Harju and Barb Egli; mother-in-law, Juanita Seck; brother- in-law, George (Terri) Seck; sisters-in- law, Judy (Dean) Bersie, Adrienne (Ken) Wheat, Hazel (Harvey Conklin) Gamec, Geri Goken, and Becky (Dale) Dearstyne, and many other caring relatives and friends. Memorial service Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 3 PM at Southshore Community Center, 5735 Country Club Road, Excelsior (952-474-7635). A gathering of family and friends will take place for 2 hours prior to the service on Saturday at the Senior Center. Post funeral gathering from 4-6 PM. Private family interment Lakewood Cemetery, Mpls. Memorials preferred to the Animal Humane Society. Dress is casual, uniforms optional. Please leave your cleats at the door. Your father was instrumental in helping me learn to play cribbage. Tim and Dean wanted so badly for me to know the "family game". He always made me feel like a sufficient player. I will miss him. Love

Arla, Steve, Todd, Sherri and the Boys,
I am so sorry for this difficult loss. I only have fond memories of the time I spent with Bruce, whether it was exploring the Junkyard with Travis, or browsing the enormous movie collection during cribbage tournaments. Beth and I are very grateful we were able to enjoy some time with him at our wedding. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.

Arla and Todd,
Sorry to read about your Dad's passing - I'm out of state and won't be able to attend the celebration of his life. I have lots of memories of the Excelsior Jaycees and also of all those softball days. It was an honor knowing both your parents - great people!
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time,

Arla and Todd,
How could we forget all great memories at the Old House by Grandma Tuthill's and then at the new house where we had the junkyard as our playground. I'll never forget how much fun we had as kids. We spent many Saturdays together with our Mom's while our Dads were working. Along with all the times your folks were their for me in good and bad times. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you during these difficult times. May you find peace knowing Mom and Dad are together again.
Love,
Sheri

To Arla and Todd, your Dad brought us all great joy. He provided a forum for continued fun and fellowship on the field, on the golf course and more. And of course he brought us you guys to carry on. Your mom and dad were a big and important part of my young life and I so appreciate all the memories I have of them both. I hope to share in the celebration of his life you are planning.
