I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Brother Clark. I was just talking with my wife about my patriarchal blessing, and I decided to google Brother Clark's name, and I came upon this news. His words of inspiration will continue to serve as a blessing to me and my family. Again, I give you my sincere regrets, and pray that you may be comforted at this time.

To the family of Bruce B. Clark,
The Verlan and Shirley Andersen family wishes to send their sincere sympathy and deep appreciation for the good there is in our lives, and the lives of so many because of your noble father and mother. We have known your family for over 5o years and have been blessed and guided by your example of service, commitment and love.
Bishop Clark was our bishop in the old Orem 15th Ward during those critical teen-age years and he guided us with his love and wisdom. Sister Clark is a beloved friend of our mother, Shirley Andersen, as they have been members of the same literary group and have enjoyed their assocation for over 50 years. Thank you for your service, care and love for each of us. We know the Lord will bless and comfort you in the knowledge of your eternal ties and that we all shall be blessed by the presence and teaching of this great man again. Love, LaDawn Andersen Jacob representing the VErlan and Shirley Andersen Family

I was lucky enough not only to take two classes from Dr. Clark, but also to work as his secretary in 1978-1979. It was a life-shaping experience to transcribe some of the patriarchal blessings he gave during that time. Even after I had typed dozens, I saw that each was incredibly unique, and that he was careful in the choice of each word. The blessings were so original, so simply yet beautifully worded, that I often wanted to meet the spiritual giants they belonged to. He had a true patriarchal gift.

Dean Bruce Clark hired me thirty-plus years ago in the Humanities College at BYU. Among many other things, he was instrumental in the creation of my department, the Humanities Research Center, which supports the computing efforts of the college. I'm grateful for his foresight and wish the best for his family during this time.

I was one of the lucky freshman students in 1952 who wound up in Dr. Clark's English 10 class. I had intended to major in journalism, but after writing a theme on my 'major dilemma' I let him talk me into majoring in English. I well remember his kind, gentle, thoughtful manner.......
Later I took his class called "The
Short Story." I still think of it as one of my all-time favorite classes, and now at an age when I find I forget or have forgotten many things, I still remember much that I learned in that class.
I was privileged to teach Relief Society for the entire time we used the series "Out of the Best Books."
Good teachers have great and lasting influence....

Levi and Althea Peterson, former students of Dr. Clark's, send their respect and condolences. We have said many times over that he was among the most informative, well organized, and effective teachers we ever had. He had a magnificent reading voice. It was sheer pleasure to listen to him read from an English novel, thereby engendering a desrie to read the entire novel.

Dr. Clark was, surely, among the most extraordinaryily gifted teachers in the English Department at BYU during my time there (1968-72). Among other things, he taught me how to appreciate the poetry of Robert Browning, and in his seminar devoted to the complete works of that poet, it was always a joyous treat to hear him read any of Browning's great poems. Somehow, he managed to clarify and elucidate the most difficult passages merely through the intonations of his quite wonderful voice.
Too, he was inevitably extremely generous with his time despite the heavy responsiblities he bore as both teacher and the Dean of the College of Humanities. He kept regular office hours, and gave his full attention to me on the (probably too frequent) occasions I imposed on him for advice.
His faith and his great integrity served as an example to me throughout my time at BYU. He wrote probably the most insightful book about Oscar Wilde, one that never saw formal publication because of the publisher's strange insistence that he focus more on the sordid life of the man rather than on the literature he produced, and it is a tribute to his integrity that he withdrew the book from publication rather than comply with their request. But he had it privately printed and honored me with a an autographed copy, something I still pick up and read for the simple joy of its finely crafted prose.
Superb teacher, distinguished author, great man.
He will be much missed.

Bruce B. Clark was one of the great men we are blessed to meet sometime in our life. His quiet humility was the key indicator of his primary greatness. Our best wishes to Jeff and family.
