Bruce Hardie Dalziel

August 9, 1943 - June 30, 2025

Born the third of six siblings to Donald and Mary Dalziel at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, California, in the summer of 1943, Bruce was a born diplomat and most agreeable person. A sister and brother came before him and three little sisters came after him. It was a big energetic family. Everyone in the family played a musical instrument and Bruce's was trumpet...as was his father's. Bruce continued with trumpet from 4th grade through high school in both private lessons and all bands at Berkeley High he could fit in.

In addition to music, Bruce was a Cub Scout then a Boy Scout in Berkeley's proud Troop 4. He continued with scouting ultimately obtaining a double Eagle Scout. Bruce loved the mountains and went on numerous hiking trips with the family through the Sierra, Yosemite and Mt Whitney. In addition to summer hiking Bruce loved the many sailing trips up and down the coast with his family.

Being a trumpet player, Bruce was a pivotal performer in Dance Band, Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, and Orchestra throughout his years in the Berkeley Public Schools. Performances included playing at Disneyland and touring to outlying cities playing in many competitions. Bruce had an early interest in hi-fi and music technologies, building himself a hi-fi stereo in high school and later pursuing the music scene in San Francisco's Haight Ashbury. Along with a cadre of good friends, he kept abreast of the music scene as a young man. This included experimenting with Moog synthesizers at San Francisco State and Mills College.

An avid student of philosophies, Bruce was a prolific journalist and notetaker, always with a pencil and an envelope or two in his shirt pocket handy to write things down upon. Bruce worked alongside his father maintaining and sailing - just the two of them - the beautiful series of sailboats his father had built, making many coastal and ocean voyages over his lifetime.

Finding true love a bit late in life, Bruce married perfectly petite Faye Marie Fasciato at St. Albert's Priory in Berkeley, California, on July 21, 2007. They lived happily in the hills of Oakland until Faye's heartbreaking and untimely death in 2010. Bruce moved from Oakland to Mansfield, Texas, soon after to live near his brother Alec and Alec's family.

Wherever Bruce went he more than met other folks, he became friends with them and they with him. He simply had that gift of personality. He was a loyal friend and came to the aid of many whenever they might need. And his friends came to his aid when he might call upon them. Friends and family were forever the most important things to Bruce and he valued them over all possessions.

Bruce is survived by his three younger sisters, Jean, Helen and Mary, and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
