Bruce was my first best friend when he lived in Toronto in his youth. Ithink of him still almost 60 years after he moved to Montreal. I remember his parents and his sister Marion. It seems like yesterday. I met him in MOntreal once about 1972 - when we both would have been about 18. I am truly sorry that I wont have the chance to remember the good old days in the early 1960s. I shall always mourn Bruce. More than a good friend and an extraordinary individual.
My heart continues to go out to the exquisite Diane. And Bruce's family.
Elisabeth.

Dear Diane,
How strange it was to hear from Frank of Bruce's passing - the last thing I expected when enquiring about an old friend who was still so young. I hear you were a rock of support to Bruce until the end, and hope you have been well supported yourself through the past year. My very best wishes to you...
Christine
Dear Bruce,
Say hello to John Fox for me. I hope you are both in bliss over the painterliness of heaven... I still have your sculpture, Girl's Head on Buoy, and will always cherish it as the beautiful piece of art it is (Diane, I believe you were the inspiration for this work, so you are cherished as well…).
I love the photo posted by Frank – thank you, Frank. I have great memories of the times we all hung out together.
Christine

Hi Diane. Here's a photo that I found recently (scanned from a 35mm slide). It's a slice of our lives circa 1988, when the 645 Wellington gang gathered with friends in my studio. From left to right: Angie, Regan O'Connor, Diane Dulude, Bruce Emo, Christine Sgherri, Frank Mulvey, Carl Mulvey, Hanibal Srouji, Brenda Newman and friend. I thought you might enjoy this.

Dear Bruce
You were one of the greatest clients seen by the Star of India staff. Over the many years you went from being a regular customer to becoming a dear family member. The staff and I would like to say that we did not serve any old customer, yet we served to a brother.
Thank you Bruce for leaving a mark in our hearts and the rest of the world.

Hi Bruce,
Here's my vision of you. As a fellow artist: experimental and inventive with a great love for letting materials express themselves without need for polish. As a fellow construction worker in the 1980s: confident, practical and reliable when it came to building walls well and on time, despite using a crappy drill instead of a drywall driver. As a physical presence: strong and steady. As an intellect: wise, cynical and funny. As a studio neighbour: a reassuring presence on the other side of the wall, exploring and creating in your humble space. As a friend: completely trustworthy.
You always made the most of what little materials you had to build, to sculpt and to paint. You dug clay out of construction sites. You used paper pulp alone to make beautiful artwork. You layered left-over CGC plaster onto collages.
Thanks Bruce for making your mark in the world. Sorry I didn't drop by for a very long time.
I think of you often.

Cher Bruce,
