Dr. Heckman was a truly great man. I knew him as my primary care doctor from 1984 until he retired. He was so dedicated to helping people that he worked in palliative care after he retired when a typical person would take time for oneself. He was driven to help any who needed it to ease their pain. God Love him. Bob

Dr. Heckman was my doctor, as well as my familes' doctor since I was born. He was a wonderful, wonderful man - I can't put into words exactly how great he was. I fondly remember his love for fly fishing, and his adorable office up in Buchanan NY which had an old-style look to it. My parents were on first-name basis with him. God speed Dr. H. I miss you, and wish I could have seen you one last time. You will always be loved. Andrea Waters (née Bugbee).

I am a colleague and suite mate of Lynn's. I met Bruce several times, I think the first time was running into them at an outdoor jazz concert! When I ran a conference a few years ago on palliative care and end of life decisions, Bruce came on as a speaker, talking about his many years working in hospice care and helping patients and their families face end of life issues.
Though I didn't know Bruce well, I always liked him, and found him to be a warm, giving man who was full of life and energy. I know he will be missed tremendously in all the communities that were lucky enough to have him as a part.
My love goes out to Lynn and the rest of Bruce's family and loved ones.

Dr. Heckman was my primary care physician for 35 years. His communications skills were top notch and was a great listener. A brilliant man who helped so so many people. After he left his practice to work in palliative care says it all. Most would be laid back and relax in retirement, but he wanted to help more palliative patients. Special!

Patients since 1976, we were shocked by Dr. Heckman's passing. Along with his clinical skills, his extraordinary kindness, compassion and warmth provided "humanistic care" long before it had to be added to medical school curricula. He was ever proud of his family and always ready to talk about you. He will be greatly missed and his memory will be a blessing.

My husband and I were patients of Bruce Heckman for 44 years. When we heard of his passing we were shocked and felt as though a relative had died. Aside from being a brilliant diagnostician he was a very nice person, a very kind person. I always described him as the Cadillac of doctors. His work in palliative care perfectly personifies who he was. His passing is most certainly a loss to the medical community and to anyone who was lucky enough to have him as a doctor. May he rest in peace.
