Bruce Murray Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 30 to Dec. 31, 2022.
The world has lost a great man, Bruce Allen Murray passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the age of 79.

Bruce was born in California on November 24, 1942 to Glenn Murray and Gladys Collins. He grew up in Portland and graduated from Benson High School. From a young age, he was interested in cars and racing. He got started right away working on cars. He opened his first shop on NE Couch St. He was a skilled technician and always believed in honesty and being fair to the customer. Majhor Murray was started in 1969 and has been servicing customers with high performance and special interest cars for over 50 years. His passion for cars was well known in the automotive and racing community. He enjoyed racing and anything that went down the track fast! He had multiple race cars through the years. The last car was the Anglia which he raced at Woodburn and multiple other tracks. He also set a land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

He was involved in numerous car clubs, service organizations and industry associations. He was instrumental in forming the Independent Garage Owners Association, which later became the Automotive Service Association and today is NW Automotive Trades Association.

Family and friends were important to him. Sunday night dinners with family and friends became a ritual over the past few years. He was compassionate, caring and kind. He had a good sense of humor and for those that knew him well - a temper! He always was there to help and many times without acknowledgement. It seems everyone that knew him has a story to share. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Teri Murray; his children, Jim Murray, Diane Abernathy, Wendy Murray, Christine Logue and Karen Lautenbach; his grandchildren, Travis Abernathy, Haley Thaxton, Eli Murray, Savannah Lautenbach, Tara Lautenbach, Justin Logue, Madison Logue and Kaitlyn Logue; his great-grandchildren, Payton Abernathy, Harper Abernathy, Jameson Abernathy and Cruz Thaxton. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Buck.

In remembrance of Bruce's life, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to American Cancer Society in Oregon.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday , January 14th from noon - 3pm at the Sam Cox Building at Glenn Otto Park in Troutdale, OR.

I machined his Bonneville 6 cylinder engines at Larson and King they were insane. H got a Wayne cross flow head that needed welding but it was saved. Benfield did the welding. The crank was lightened we spared nothing. He loved my quality machine work I'm the best. RIP my friend

Many of us who lived on S.E. 35th Place remember Bruce as a good neighbor and friend. At Benson, he was well-liked and many of his classmates held him in high regard for his knowledge and ability to work on our vehicles. when I was at his establishment he would always take time to chat. I miss him quite a bit as he was a great friend.

Bruce was a great man, and was always there for me when needed as a neighbor or friend. As a teenager he let me ride his Honda Cub motorcycle, and once in a while, drive his Jeep with a high performance motor. Dinners at their home was always enjoyable, dining with his family was a special time. Bruce will be missed.

I met Bruce through hunting. We began hunting deer and elk together in 1974 and continued until just a few years ago. Many wonderful memories and some great success. Such a fine friend with a great concern for other people. I will miss him a lot.
