Bruce Niemi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2025.
Bruce A. Niemi, 69, passed away on August 8, 2025, in West Palm Beach, Florida due to Frontal Temporal Dementia. Born on February 23, 1956, in Waukegan, Illinois, Bruce lived a life defined by creativity, compassion, and unwavering faith.

A proud graduate of Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Illinois (Class of 1974), Bruce's early talent and dedication earned him a wrestling scholarship to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. There, he pursued his passion for sculpture and graduated in 1981 with a degree that would shape the course of his extraordinary career.

Bruce's artistic legacy is both vast and deeply meaningful. He created more than 50 public sculptures throughout his lifetime, as well as countless one-of-a-kind pieces that now grace homes and businesses across the country. His first large-scale public work, the Eternal Flame War Memorial (1993), stands in Worth, Illinois-a powerful tribute to those who served. Among his most cherished accomplishments were two sculptures installed at his alma mater: *Living the Dream* at the Barsema Alumni and Visitor's Center and *Remembered* near Cole Hall, honoring the five students who lost their lives on February 14, 2008. Bruce often expressed profound gratitude for the gift of creativity and felt blessed by all who supported and appreciated his work over the years.

Beyond his artistic achievements, Bruce was known for his deep faith in Jesus Christ. He was a devoted member of Cornerstone Community Church for 39 years, where he served as an Elder for sixteen years before relocating to Florida. His commitment to ministry extended to youth leadership and men's fellowship groups. Bruce's gentle spirit and generous heart were evident in every aspect of his life-he gave freely of his time and energy to help others, no matter the circumstance.

Bruce LOVED to dance. It was through dancing that he met the love of his life, Suzi (White) Niemi. The two shared countless joyful moments on the dance floor throughout their life together-even up to Bruce's final days-always with music in his soul and a radiant smile on his face. Their bond was one of joy, movement, and deep affection.

Bruce is survived by his beloved wife Suzi; brothers Frank (Gail) Niemi and Les (Linda) Niemi; Aunt Babe (Satterfield) Anderson; Uncle Hal Satterfield; Uncle Dave Dever; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis J. Niemi and Bonnie J. (Satterfield) Niemi; his grandparents; and many cherished aunts and uncles.

Bruce touched lives across the world with his kindness, patience, and generosity. He made friends wherever he went-his warmth leaving a lasting impression on all who met him. The outpouring of love from around the globe is a testament to the impact he had on so many.

He is dancing with Jesus and his Mama now.

May Bruce's memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 1, 2025, at 01:00 PM at Cornerstone Community Church 40413 N Delaney Rd. Visitation: 1-2pm

The first time I met Bruce was on the wrestling mat at Warren in 1984. He was always there to help us reach our full potential, on and off the mat. His love for his savior was obvious in the time and effort he gave to everyone he met. I then witnessed his love for Christ in an even greater way when we were members of Cornerstone church where he showed his servant heart in every way possible. He was always willing to share God´s love and wisdom and was a great mentor. Bruce will live in the fond memories I have of him. Rest in peace my brother.

My Uncle Bruce was an amazing man! He always had a smile and you just knew it came from the happiness in his heart . His love for God, Aunt Suzi and the rest of our family and friends was immense! He was the type of man that other men should strive to be like always willing to help people out, set a positive example for everyone, and accepting people as they are. His creative talent produced many beautiful art pieces all inspired by his faith. The world lost a beautiful soul and Heaven gained one. Love and miss you Uncle Bruce
