GILKINSON, Bryce Stewart November 4, 1953 - August 3, 2010 Bryce's family and friends are saddened by his sudden and unexpected passing on August 3rd, 2010 in his 57th year. Bryce lived his life fully with honour and purpose. He exemplified a man with a true servant's heart. His quick wit, compassionate heart and zest for life will be missed by all who truly knew him. His legacy lives on in his family who adore him and his friends whom he valued tremendously. Bryce was born in Wingham, Ontario to Wilfred and Grace Gilkinson, younger brother to Brian. Belonging to a policeman's family entailed many moves to various communities throughout Ontario. After high school Bryce joined the Canadian Navy for two years, returning home to attend and graduate from Brock University with Honours. In 1978 he proudly joined the RCMP and after basic training was stationed in BC at North Vancouver, Vancouver, Richmond and Surrey. After retirement from the RCMP in 1999, he joined ICBC's Special Investigation Unit where he was employed at the time of his death. In addition to his career choices, Bryce had a passion for organizations that served God and his fellow man. He was also a proud and dedicated 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Master Mason in Craft Masonry, and long-time member of Tsawwassen Lodge No. 185. This past year Bryce was delighted to reconnect with his passion for motorcycles. He recently enjoyed a road trip through New York State with his brother and friends. As Bryce approached retirement there were plans for many more of these trips. Bryce was a devoted husband and father. He was extremely proud of his children and was ever present in every aspect of their daily lives. He set the standard to which we should all aspire. Bryce was predeceased by his father, Wilfred and father-in-law, Ken Horwood. He is survived by his loving wife, Stacey, his children Michael (Leslie), Stacey Noelle and Connor, as well as his beloved mother, Grace, brother Brian (Sharon), and mother-in-law Gloria Horwood. Bryce cherished all of his extended family, friends and co-workers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Bryce be made to: The Scottish Rite Learning Centre for Children with Dyslexia, an organization that Bryce was passionately involved in. Please visit www.srcf.ca - Donating to the foundation page - Memorial Donation section. The cheque or donation must be made out to the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation and clearly marked in Memory of Bryce for donation to the Operations of the Vancouver Children's Learning Centre. A Service celebrating Bryce's life will be held at South Delta Baptist Church, 1988 - 56th Street, Tsawwassen, BC at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 11th, 2010 with reception to follow at the church. Dear Stacey, Michael, Stacey and Connor, I was shocked and saddened to read of Bryce's passing. We first met Bryce and you during our preschool days with Stacey and Jennica. At a time when we were new to Tsawwassen, you welcomed us in and made us feel at ease. I remember countless "playdates" in your house and backyard. Bryce was always warm and welcoming, a true gentleman. Many years after the preschool period, when our girls had moved to different schools and we no longer met for playtimes, Brad received a phone call out of the blue, from Bryce. Brad's wallet that had been stolen some months before, had now arrived in Bryce's department. He recognized the name and wanted to return it to Brad. Although we had lost touch, he took the time and trouble to get in contact with us and personally return the wallet to Brad. He went above and beyond. I think this is just a small indication of the generous and kind person that Bryce was.
We wish you strength and wanted you to know how saddened we are by Bryce's passing.

The members of Troop 13 78/79 salute Bryce (aka The Count). He was a fine man, respected by all of his troop-mates. Stacey, Bryce was proud of his beautiful family and his smile demonstrated that. I had the fortune of keeping in touch wih him over the years and almost landed a job working with him at ICBC. Wendy and I wish you strength and thank your family for sharing your memories of Bryce.

Stacey and Family,
I was saddened to learn of Bryce's unexpected passing. We worked together at Richmond Detachment 20 years ago. Bryce was a solid RCMP member and I learned so much from him. He was a true gentleman with a quiet, but wicked sense of humour. I will miss him.

To the Gilkinson family. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. I worked with Bryce in SIU and he is also a Masonic Brother. I consider myself very lucky to have known him.

I was honoured to serve under Bryce in Scottish Rite Freemasonry (Consistory) where he was a truly superb Commander-in-Chief. Bryce was the consummate Freemason and a true gentlemen. We were so deeply saddened by his passing and our hearts go out to Stacey and family.

Dear Stacey, Michael, Stacey and Connor, I was so privileged to work with Bryce (your husband and dad). What a gentleman. There was no task or request that was ever to much for him. He always tried his best to help with our investigations. More than that, he was so proud of you, above all, you were his inspiration. I always appreciated his dedication to work but more than that we conneted because of our families dedication to Police Work (mine as part of the British Metropotian) and also our commitment to work but more importantly our commitment to our families which was our number #1 priority. When I worked with Bryce and his partner John Porter at South Vancouver they were such great times. Bryce and John were an amazing team and we always could count on their support to get the job done. Bryce loved you all so much. We are all blessed from having him touch our lives. The angels are singing tonight from having his special soul join them although our hearts are aching from losing him. Stacey, I have shared a poem called "The Oak Tree" with Cal and I hope that during these difficult times it will give you and the children some strength to carry on. Bryce was a Unique Gentleman and a Scholar of which I was privileged to work with and know.
God Bless You Bryce, Rest in Peace
Always..Kathryn Hepher

Bro. Bryce truly exemplified the morals and virtues all humans should aspire towards. A love and respect for his family, profession and mankind were evident in all his daily undertakings. Dedicated to continuous improvement and a better understanding of life's mysteries, Bryce strived to improve the lives of all those around him. My sincere condolences go out to all those effected by this tragic loss, as there are many.
Bryce will be missed but he is not gone. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends and those whose lives he made better by simply being... Bryce.

Stacey, my heart goes out to you and your children at this very sad time. I also lost my dear father when he was only age 57 so I personally understand how painful it is to be robbed prematurely of a wonderful parent and mentor. I pray that the great memories of Bryce, and the legacy he has left behind, will comfort each of you in the lonely days ahead. God bless you with his comfort and peace, knowing that Bryce is in a better place and that you will see him again one day!

My thoughts are with you, Stacey and your children during this very difficult time. Bryce and I both started working at ICBC in 1999 and we worked closely for many years. Even though our locations changed, we remained in close contact. He was always very supportive and kind to me and we shared many laughs over the years. His work ethic and dedication was inspiring to me. He is someone that I am honored to have known and called my friend. I will miss him.

My Uncle Bryce was an amazing man, with a big heart and a warm smile. He brought joy to everyone around him and will be missed dearly. We will cherish our memories of him and will always be thankful that we had a wonderful visit with him, before God called him home.

My deepest sympathies to you Stacey, and your children and family. Ever since meeting Bryce on the drill square in Regina as a not so fresh faced Bryce ventured as an unsuspecting recruit willing to learn, it was easily detected that he had joined the RCMP with service as his goal. In later life this was shown true as he joined Free Masonry. May the days, months and time ahead be aided by the wonderful memories of a good friend, father, and husband.
