Brynn Gross Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 16, 2025.
Brynn Felldin Gross went peacefully to heaven on January 18, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. She died at home with her son Nic and his family, having recently moved from Charlotte, NC to Denver, CO for cancer care.

Brynn was born in New Jersey on October 28, 1949 to Wallace and Elizabeth Felldin. A graduate of Moravian College, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1980, and soon after began a lifelong career as a preschool teacher, first at Calvary Church and later at Carmel Baptist Church's Wee School. For all who knew "Miss Brynn," she was a loving, patient, and devoted teacher to the hundreds of four-year-olds she taught over the years. Indeed - to the surprise of no one - after being diagnosed with cancer in November 2024, she postponed her move to Denver so she could finish out the semester teaching her kids.

In addition to her teaching, Brynn loved her family, her friends, and her church. She looked forward to her annual trips to the beach with her "Beach Babes," to lunches with friends (especially over a Cobb salad at Trios), and to worshiping weekly with her church family. She never missed the chance to play a game, whether it was a new card game she taught to her grandkids on her trips to Colorado or puzzles she played in quiet moments alone.

Brynn was a loving and devoted mother, nana, and sister. Her family includes: her two boys, Nic Heinke (wife Danielle Voorhees) and Eric Heinke; her grandchildren Emma Heinke, Will Heinke, Oliver Voorhees, and Campbell Voorhees; her sisters Lisa Green (husband Chuck and boys, Connor and Patrick) and Carol Chesworth (husband Malcolm); and her brother Drew Felldin (daughters Lindsay Bachner and Erin Felldin). Brynn also loved her three step-sons from her prior marriage to Paul Gross (deceased): Brock, Chuck, and Mike Gross.

For all who knew and loved her, we remember a tough woman with an unshakable faith. In the end, when faced with cancer, she would say "I'm not scared of where I'm going, I'm just not looking forward to what I have to go through to get there." While we miss her tremendously, we're thankful that she's where she knew she would eventually go.

The family is planning a memorial service and Celebration of Life on April 4, 2025 at 2pm at Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one of Brynn's favorite charities, Food for the Hungry (https://www.fh.org/) or World Vision (https://www.worldvision.org/).

I knew Brynn for a good while through Singles Again at Calvary Church in Charlotte. . My husband and I met her before she married Paul. Just want her family to know how much we loved her. She was a special and very sweet lady. We just today found out about her passing when we found out about Paul´s. She will be missed.

Dear Carol, Drew and Lisa,
I am so sorry to hear of your sister's passing. Brynn was formative in my young life, walking to school everyday with Jill and Susie and Pam and turning cartwheels in our backyard. She was athletic and warm and a good friend. I am not surprised that she had a special gift for working with young children. I am sure she will be missed.

Brynn, I am so sad to know you are gone. I treasured your friendship all throughout elementary school and high school and I am so sorry we lost touch. You were a sweet caring person and I loved our sleepovers. Thank you for being one of my bridesmaids . I am sad your life was short and I wish I could have helped you. Rest in Peace, dear friend.

Brynn took me to a Calvary church service back in 1983. It was only months before I became ill with Hodgkin's. She encouraged me & Dick to follow God's Word & get involved in the church. I am still a member of Calvary. I credit Brynn's patience and persistence for helping my to form and mature in my faith.

Known Brynn for many years through Calvary Church and mutual friends. A genteel and caring spirit with a big heart for children and friends! Greatly loved and will be greatly missed!
