Buu Le Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 14, 2012.
Le Tan Buu (1922 – 2012)
Le Tan Buu, a well-known leader in the Vietnamese community, passed away on May 13, 2012 with his family by his side in Fairfax, Virginia.
Mr. Le was born on April 30, 1922 in Long Thuan, Vietnam. His distinguished professional career began with his graduation from the 2nd Cohort of the Hue Military Academy of the Republic of Vietnam (RVN) in 1945. As a lieutenant in the RVN Army Corps of Engineers, he attended a program in Civil Engineering in Versailles, France, and graduated in 1954. A year after returning to Vietnam, he met and married his wife, Deo Nang Eng. He then retired from the RVN Army and joined RMK, an American construction firm, as an engineer.
In 1961, Mr. Le rejoined the RVN government as an Assistant to the General Director of the Ministry of Information. After the fall of the Diem regime, he was asked by the new Vietnamese Republic to become the Assistant to the General Director of the National Police Force, as well as the Director of the Secret Service Bureau. In 1966, he was elected as one of the first 60 Senators of the Republic of Vietnam.
After the fall of the Republic of Vietnam, Mr. Le was sent to a reeducation camp in North Vietnam. After 13 years, he was released from the camp and immigrated to the US in 1992. He began a second "life", going back to college at the age of 73, and at 81, received his PhD in Sociology from George Mason University.
As an advisor to the Senior Vietnamese-American Organization of the Washington D.C., Mr. Le was an active leader of the Northern Virginia Vietnamese community and worked tirelessly in service of his fellow senior citizens.
Mr. Le is survived by his wife Mrs. Eng, two children (Trang Ouk and Phuoc Le), two grandchildren (Chris Ouk and Jennifer Ouk), and three great grandchildren (Kalyn Ouk, Sydni Ouk, and Rylan Ouk).
