Dr. Byron Davis, 87, of St. Simons Island, died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Marshes Edge on St. Simons Island. Dr. Davis was a graduate of Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., and Emory University Medical School in Atlanta where he earned his medical degree in pathology. He served as an Officer in the Army during WWII where he fought and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He also served several years in the Army Reserves. Prior to moving to St. Simons Island he was a resident of Valdosta, where he founded and directed Doctors Laboratory. He was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Valdosta and St. Simons United Methodist Church on the island.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hirst Davis of St. Simons Island; a daughter, Paddy Davis Kennington and husband John of Marietta; a son, Edward Scott Davis and wife Sally of St. Simons Island; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Valdosta with the Rev. Jim Rush and the Rev. Willie Beasley officiating. A private family inurnment was held in Christ Church Cemetery.
