C.A.G. "Al" Blomquist Jr.

C.A.G. "Al" Blomquist Jr. COLUMBIA - SAVClaes Albert George Blomquist, Jr. was born on February 19, 1914, in Savannah, Georgia. He graduated from Auburn University in Mechanical Engineering in 1936. Al received his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from University of Chicago. During World War II, he served with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. After the war, he spent a long career with the Monsanto Corporation in Anniston, Alabama, and later with Chemstrand in Pensacola, FL, and Greenwood, S.C. He was very active in the United Methodist Church and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in World War II and the Army Reserve where he reached the rank of colonel. Al was preceded in death by his two sisters, Harriet and Frances, his first wife, Myrtis Jenkins, in 1964, and Ethel Smith in 2002. At the age of 89, he married his college sweetheart, Doris Canon, of Opelika, Alabama, where they made their home until her passing in 2011. Al Blomquist is survived by his three children, Mrs. Becky Ballard (Mike), Rev. Bert Blomquist (Cathy), and Mrs. Sallie Johnson (Marc), eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. With gratitude for his love for his family and service to his country, Al was honored on his 100th Birthday on February 19, 2014. At age 102, he was living with his kind neighbors and friends at Forest Pines in Columbia, S.C. He passed on Friday, August 19, 2016.
