C.M. Ward DARLINGTON - Cleo Morris "C. M." Ward, Jr., age 90, passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 at the McLeod Hospice House, Florence. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, in the First Baptist Church of Darlington. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m until time of the service. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home. Mr. Ward was born June 28, 1921, to the late Cleo Morris Ward and Juanita Fickling Ward. He graduated from Furman University and received a Master's degree from Appalachian State University. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. C. M. was president of the Darlington Roller Mill for many years and retired as a teacher from the Darlington County School District. He was a past president of the Darlington Kiwanis Club and served on the Board of Directors of First Federal Savings and Loan. He was on the Darlington Board of C & S National Bank and was active in civic affairs. C. M. was an active member of First Baptist Church of Darlington having served in numerous capacities. C. M. is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances Godwin Ward and their four children: Annita W. (Candler) Hunt, J. Ronald (Susan) Ward, Susan W. (Rhame) Guyton and C. Morris (Belle)Ward, III. He was also blessed with eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two wonderful cats.
