Visit the Legacy Remembers website to view the full obituary.
Our beloved daughter and sister, Caitlin McMahon Dykstra lost her life on April 10, 2024 at her home in Austin, Texas. Her struggle later in life did not diminish her wit, her intellect, her beautiful smile nor her compassionate soul.

Caitlin received her degree in Business Administration from Colorado Technical University. She recently obtained her insurance license and was studying for the Series 7 exam with the goal of beginning a career in finance.

Caitlin is survived by her mom, Mary McMahon, her dad, Dennis Dykstra (Mary), her brother, Patrick Dykstra (Nikki) and nephew Theo, her stepsiblings, Dorothy and Perry, along with a loving extended family, many friends and her two pugs, Tyson and Ollie. Caitlin will be interred with her Grandma Gretchen at Calgary Cemetery, St. Paul, MN in a private ceremony. A celebration of her life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Caitlin's honor to Austin Pug Rescue in Texas: austinpugrescue.com or To Write Love on Her Arms: twloha.com

Caitlin was really special to me here in Austin, and I've been really busted up that we lost her. It's been strange because I don't really know anyone else here who knew her, and I only found out she was gone because we normally would text a lot and we had plans to get together. Then her phone was turned off and I only found out from facebook when I went looking for her. I don't even know if she knew how much she meant to me, but she was one of my best friends here. I haven't really been able to process it at all, and I don't even know what happened, but I know that we are all impoverished by losing her. She was such a cool fun friendly person with such a great spirit. I know she had woes, but I also know that she saw a life for herself that was long term, and I never, ever thought that she wouldn't be around. I'm so sad about it, I really loved her and I miss her a lot. I'm glad for this site just for a place to be able to express it because I haven't been able to express it to anyone really. Okay thanks, this is her friend Josh Harnden, [email protected]

I´m so sorry to hear this news.

Memories of Windsor Court and the throng of kids playing in the yards and waiting for the school bus. I remember Caitlin´s grin and the twinkle in her eyes.
I´ll add a photo when I find it.

To my childhood neighbors, I´m so sorry for your loss. I babysat Caitlyn and Patrick back in the day. She was full of energy and I remember jumping on mattresses in the basement! I´m sure we have some old photos. I´ll try to dig them up.

I remember meeting Caitlin at one of your "Academy Award" parties, Mary. She was delightful, with a bright smile and quick wit. She will be greatly missed and I know you are experiencing great pain and grief. Sending hugs and deepest sympathies on your tremendous loss, my friend.

I didn't know Caite. I met her at Gramma's funeral and was excited to know there was another pug enthusiast in the family. She was warm and had a great smile. I lost my brother in a similar way 6 years ago. There are no words. May her memory be a blessing. Love and light surround you in your grief. Xo
