Vila Allen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 13 to Mar. 16, 2008.
Vila Allen, 93, died at the hospital Sunday, March 9, 2008, after a brief illness. She was born in their farmhouse to Isabelle (Knutson) Thygeson and Thyge Thygeson in Gatzke, MN September 13, 1914. She shared the one room schoolhouse with many Knutson cousins and her sister, Addie, as well as brothers, Hollis, Lester and Bob. After attending Beauty School in Fargo, ND, she moved to Wenatchee along with her mother and brother, Bob. After those happy years with cousins, Jack, Lyle, Beulah, Cora and Lila Knutson and so many other relatives, she started her career girl days and then met and married Clayton Allen on Christmas Eve, 1940. Their only child, Barbara was born in Bremerton in 1942, while Clayton was repairing wartime ships. Upon returning to Wenatchee, she worked in Drs. Earl & Glenn Bolton's medical office and later at the Eye & Ear Clinic/Hospital. She was a wonderful mother and delighted in her daughter's sons, Todd and Jeff and four great-grandchildren. She loved being a homemaker, cooking and entertaining. She has always been such a generous and giving lady, a tiny dynamo, especially with cookies or a paintbrush in hand. In the 1970's, her big adventure (a cruise to the Holy Lands with H.M.S. Richards) was gleefully topped off by a camel ride at the base of the pyramids. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Clayton; daughter, Barbara and husband, Joe; together with their sons, Todd from Seattle, and Jeff and wife, Kirsten in Colorado Springs, CO; and their four children (her great-grandchildren), Carly, twins, Susannah and Joe, and Dylan Huston. Also her brother, Bob Thygeson, his wife and children; and so very many nieces and nephews. She is already so missed, we all look forward eagerly to being in Heaven together with her. The world is less without her. Viewing will be from 2 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Jones & Jones ~ Betts Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Western Avenue, Wenatchee. Internment will follow the service at the Evergreen Memorial Park, 1301 NE 10th Street, East Wenatchee. Memorial contributions can be made to International Children's Care, P.O. Box 820610 Vancouver, WA 98682-0013. Arrangements are by Jones & Jones ~ Betts Funeral Home.

Clayton and Barbara and family,
I am so sorry to hear of the death of your dear wife and mother. We had such a great visit when my Dad (Archie Knutson) and I were out there for a visit. What a wonderful lady.

Dear Clayton, Barbara and family,
How saddened I was to read of Vila's passing. I have fond memories of her and always liked our chats both at church functions and at your home. She cooked my family a delicious Sabbath meal or 2 as I recall. I know she will be truly missed while we are all here on earth. One day we will all be reunited and what a glorious day that will be.
In case you didn't know and are wondering why this email is coming from me here in NY, Jim and I separated in 2006 after 43 years together and I moved to New York. I now read the Wenatchee World online and try to keep up to date with the E. Wenatchee church via email.
Please know I send my love and prayers to you all. Barbara, I didn't get to know you very well and I'm sorry for that but Clayton, you once told me I had a smile like a bouquet of roses....I'll never forget that. You're wonderful. Thank you.
