Caren Atkins

December 3, 1940 - August 21, 2025

Caren Atkins, 84, passed away peacefully at home on August 21, 2025, in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.

Born in Carrizo Springs, Texas, to Billie and Ida Mae Powell, Caren graduated with the Carrizo Springs High School Class of 1959, where she was active in sports and cheerleading. A few years later, she married her high school sweetheart, Dean Atkins.

Early in her career, Caren worked as an administrative assistant for the State of Texas in Austin. She later dedicated herself to raising her children, Jeff and Deana, supporting their education and countless activities. When her children were grown, she resumed her professional life as an administrative assistant at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

In 2008, Caren and Dean moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, where she enjoyed retirement surrounded by friends, church, and community. There, she became an active member of Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church and the Women's Golf Association, participating as much as her health allowed.

Caren was known for her warmth, kindness, and gift for friendship. A favorite piece of décor in her home reflected her life's philosophy: "The only way to have a friend is to be one." She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend whose presence brightened every room. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dean; her children, Jeff and Deana; her sister, Elaine VanHorn of Austin, Texas; sisters-in-law Barbara Blair (Tom) of Uvalde, Texas, and Mary Powell of Georgetown, Texas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Caren was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Connie and brother-in-law Bill; her brother Duane; sister-in-law Brenda; and brother-in-law Bill.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church, 700 Balearic Road, Hot Springs Village, with a fellowship gathering afterward at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church, 700 Balearic Road, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909.

May Caren's memory bring comfort to all who loved her and serve as a lasting reminder of a life beautifully lived.
