Carey Hopkins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 2 to Sep. 4, 2016.
Hopkins, Carey Vincent 73 May 16, 1943 Aug. 30, 2016 Carey Vincent Hopkins passed away Aug. 30, 2016 at home surrounded by his loved ones, after a long battle with cancer. He grew up in Roseburg, and was the only child of Charles and Shirley Hopkins. He had fond memories of his childhood in Roseburg; hunting, fishing and swimming with friends in the Umpqua river. Carey is a graduate of Roseburg High School and has kept in contact with many school friends. Carey served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Oriskany as a Signalman during the Vietnam War. He proudly drove his pick-up covered in a unique Navy wrap. He retired from Fred Meyer where he was truck driver for 25 years. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Belva; his sons, Carey Jr. and Justin; grandchildren, Chance, Sierra, Sedona and Trinity. Carey will be remembered as a hard working, generous man who genuinely loved his family and had a soft spot in his heart for animals. He continued his passion for fishing throughout his life with friends and family. Donations in Carey's memory may be given to OHSU Foundation, Prostate Cancer Research 1121 SW Salmon Suite 100 Portland, OR 97205

Always enjoyed Carey's great sense of humor at our Class of '61 lunches in Lake Oswego. He was a good friend.... and enjoyed life,
See ya sometime ol' friend.

Dear Belva and Family, You don't know me, but I was a classmate of your husband's many years ago. We graduated in 1961; sadly, just as your husband of 43 years (same number of happily married years with us and I just cannot imagine losing mine) has passed from this life to eternal life, we are all right behind Carey - give or take a few years or weeks or days or even hours. God bless you and my prayer is He will comfort you in this time of deep sorrow. I truly wish that I had a magic wand and could bring Carey back to you; but sadly I don not have any magic, only the gift of eternal life and that is found in John 3:16 and to comfort one another with these words from I Thessalonians 4:13-18. So very sorry for your terrific loss!

Dear Belva, I was privileged to have such a wonderful stepbrother in my life. I know my mother and Chuck are with Carey now and they will continue to always be with us in our hearts. Thank you for your strength in loving and caring for Carey. Love to you and all your family.

A truly gracious, kind man of many talents who readily shared himself and home with so many to encourage fun and friendship! Good to have spent time - but way too little - in his presence enjoying his wit, humor and joyful emails. And, "Thank you" Belva!

I am really sorry to hear of the loss of Carey. I was honored to become his friend after meeting him & finding out he was my high school classmate. He always had a positive attitude despite his condition. See ya later Carey!

"It was on the mourn
I saw a ship a sailing
The sea was calm
Carey was at the rail."

Bell:

We can't begin to tell you how much we will miss our "Carey Carey." He was such a character and kept us in constant chuckles. We will miss his funny emails and phone calls, but most of all, we will miss his wonderful RHS party decrations. He continued to amaze us in all the beautiful and fun things he (and you too) would make for all of us.

Our thoughts and well wishes are being sent to you and the boys.

Love,
Chuck 'n Dee
