Carl Carlson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 8, 2014.
Carlson, Carl W.

Carl W. Carlson, 81 loving husband, father, grandfather and friend died October 4, 2014.

Carl was born in Chicago on November 5, 1932. He enlisted and served in the United States Navy from 1949-1952 during the Korean War. After serving in the Navy, he attended the University of Illinois. During his college years, he married the love of his life, Juanita "Gus" Gustafson on July 7, 1956 and then graduated in 1958 with his degree in Architecture. In 1961, he started his own business, Carlson/Seekatz Architects and had a very wonderful and successful career for over 30 plus years as well as after he retired in 1995.

During those 30 years, Carl and his wife Gus, purchased 40 acres near Sister Bay, Wisconsin, in the mid 1970's to design and build their summer home by themselves with the help of their sons, employees from his company and many of his great friends.

One of Carl's other great passions in life was golf. Golf started for him by playing with friends at Waveland in Chicago, Renwood G.C. in Round Lake Beach, Marriot Lincolnshire G.C. in Lincolnshire, golfing with his regular Wednesday group at Lake Bluff G.C. golf outings at the Playboy Club in Lake Geneva with the Lou Malnati group, Hot Spring Village golf courses with his Arkansas gang and playing at Maxwelton Braes with his Door County buddies.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 58 years (Gus); two sons (Eric and Christian), two granddaughters (Cameron and Brynn) and many wonderful friends.

A gathering for family and friends to honor Carl's incredible life will be held at Alexander's Restaurant in Fish Creek on Monday, October 13, 2014 between 10:00 - 2:00.

Mrs. C, Eric and Chris: Please accept Nancy's and my condolences for your loss. I can't begin to tell you how fond are my memories of Mr. C. High School wouldn't have been the same without Eric--and Eric wouldn't be Eric without Mr. C's love and influence. I always appreciated his knowledge, his humor and his good cheer. Couldn't have asked for a better Door County "boss": a mentor for learning the fine art of mortar-mixing! Mr. C also played a BIG part in the development of my love of golf. You have our prayers and best wishes for peace and healing. RCK
