How we met and the story of our relationship is worth at least a novella. Anytime C called, I dropped what I was doing to talk... believe me. We collected Phil Niekro memorabilia (which is a story in itself) and talked Atlanta sports. I don't have anyone else im my life I treat as I did Big C. Long distance, he helped me rediscover an historical figure from my hometown in a way Hollywood wouldn't believe. The stories I'd love to tell... There was an eminence to how we thought of each other. Words are failing me, but I don't know how I could have described our letters, our calls, our helping each other's collections, our sports chats, even while he was still around. I'll never have another special relationship like I had with C. I'll miss him in a way no one else will, and I'll always cherish the memories.

Big C,
Thanks for our time together. My first fishing pole, taking me to games, cheering for me, talking sports.

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time. I will remember Carl the way he was the last time I saw him when I visited with my dad...smiling, laughing, and reminiscing about baseball and the good ole days. He had lots of wonderful stories and I feel honored to have known him.

I was so sad to read in the paper about our dear Carl's death. I worked many years with him at Robinson Company. Southeasrt Sports and later through Frank Carter Co. He was a true gentleman and loved by all.
I will always cherish your friendship.

Thinking of you at this time and remembering you and the family in my prayers.
