KLODELL CARL BENJAMIN, M.D.
Of Maineville, OH, passed away Oct. 18, 2012 in Cinti, OH. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Albert A. and Ida Aber Klodell. Dr. Klodell graduated from Peabody High School and then attended the University of Pittsburgh. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy; serving four years as a Lieutenant on the USS Engage and Oberon, traveling to many ports of call from all the hemispheres. Following the Navy he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School succeeded by an internship, residency and fellowship, under the renowned Dr. Harvey Thorpe, at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh. Dr. Klodell, who was board certified, then practiced ophthalmology in Youngstown, Ohio for 42 years. In Youngstown he was active in the Lion's Club, serving as its President in 1970, was on the staff of Northside and St. Elizabeth Hospitals, was an adjunct professor at NEOUCOM, was Secretary of the Cleveland Ophthalmological Society, and was active in the Mahoning County Medical Society. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, the former Ruthie Cooper; daughters, Kathie and Karen (Joe) Frecker of Cincinnati; son, Alan (Alexandria) of New Albany, Ohio; son, Michael (Kelly) of Cincinnati; eight precious grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Smith of Pittsburgh; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Alvin (Gay) Goldstone of Richmond, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services were held. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to honor his memory may make a donation to the Hospice of Cincinnati, 4310 Cooper Road, Cincinnati, OH 45242.
